My eyes are bloodshot on such an important day... What can I do?
A dual-specialty doctor with a background in plastic surgery, bridging cosmetic surgery and ophthalmology. At the university hospital, he performed numerous high-difficulty cases, primarily focusing on eye and facial bone surgeries, cultivating precise techniques grounded in anatomy. He prioritizes achieving both aesthetic beauty and functional safety, offering customized treatments around the eyes that incorporate ophthalmological expertise. He actively utilizes not only incisional surgery but also non-invasive procedures like hyaluronic acid injections. By carefully assessing each individual's condition and unique appeal, he provides bespoke treatments that guide patients toward naturally harmonious, well-defined eyes.
Hello, I'm Ryutaro Natsume, an image designer and cosmetic surgeon.

It's an important day, but my eyes are bloodshot... I often get asked about this not only by patients, but also by colleagues and friends.
There are various causes of eye redness.
This time, we'll introduce some of the reasons behind this.
◯Allergies
It may cause redness associated with allergic conjunctivitis.
Recently (in September), ragweed pollen is in the air, which can cause allergy symptoms to worsen.
Antihistamine eye drops (such as Aljeion LX) are often used, but steroid eye drops may be used if symptoms are severe.
◯Infection
It may occur with viral or bacterial conjunctivitis.
We will monitor the progress using antibiotic eye drops. Steroid eye drops may also be used concurrently.
Adenovirus-induced epidemic keratoconjunctivitis is highly contagious, so thorough infection control measures are essential to prevent spreading it to others. It is particularly common in summer.
Inflammation within the eye, such as uveitis, can also cause redness, with the area near the pupil being particularly prone to redness in such cases.
Dry Eye
Severe dry eye can cause corneal epithelial damage.
Treatment targeting the protective tear film layer of the cornea, such as Hyalain eye drops or Ziquas eye drops, will be necessary.
◯Contact
The oxygen permeability varies depending on the contact lens. Generally, cheaper lenses tend to have lower oxygen permeability, while more expensive lenses tend to have higher oxygen permeability.
In cases of tissue hypoxia, the body may induce vasodilation in surrounding blood vessels to deliver oxygen. Increasing the oxygen permeability of the contact lens may improve this condition.
Poorly fitted contact lenses can cause discomfort or irritation, leading to rubbing and increased susceptibility to redness. Switching to lenses that better match the shape of your cornea may improve the situation.
Contact lens wearers are prone to giant papillary conjunctivitis, a severe allergic conjunctivitis that can also cause redness. In such cases, contact lens use should be discontinued and treated with steroid eye drops.
◯Swelling
After eating hangover cures or late-night ramen, your body swells up, doesn't it?
Similarly, the whites of the eyes become swollen and bloodshot.
Steroid eye drops will improve the condition. Naphazoline, which has a vasoconstrictive effect, is also effective.
⸻
As you can see, the treatment for bloodshot eyes varies significantly depending on the cause.
Whether it affects one eye or both is also an important point in diagnosis.
Inflammation inside the eye, such as uveitis, is particularly urgent. Do not attempt to self-diagnose; we recommend seeing an ophthalmologist.
That is the quickest way to improve the redness.
We also diagnose post-aesthetic medical procedure redness by considering these differential diagnoses.
