What's causing those bumps around your eyes?

Ryutaro Natsume

A dual-specialty doctor with a background in plastic surgery, bridging cosmetic surgery and ophthalmology. At the university hospital, he performed numerous high-difficulty cases, primarily focusing on eye and facial bone surgeries, cultivating precise techniques grounded in anatomy. He prioritizes achieving both aesthetic beauty and functional safety, offering customized treatments around the eyes that incorporate ophthalmological expertise. He actively utilizes not only incisional surgery but also non-invasive procedures like hyaluronic acid injections. By carefully assessing each individual's condition and unique appeal, he provides bespoke treatments that guide patients toward naturally harmonious, well-defined eyes.

Hello, I'm Ryutaro Natsume, an image designer and plastic surgeon.

What causes the bumps around the eyes? And how can they be treated?

When using insurance-covered treatments, liquid nitrogen is often recommended, but it frequently proves ineffective or even leads to noticeable hyperpigmentation.

This time, we'll explain the common growths that appear around the eyes.

In rare cases, there is a possibility of malignant tumors, so please consider consulting a specialized medical institution.

sweat duct tumor

It occurs due to the proliferation of eccrine sweat glands, which secrete sweat.
They often appear on the lower eyelid, forming clusters of small bumps.

It is related to female hormones and is commonly seen in women after puberty.

Treatment Methods: CO2 Laser, Needle RF (Potenza)

Sebaceous hyperplasia

It occurs due to the proliferation and enlargement of sebaceous glands.

A benign orange-colored tumor resembling acne that forms on the forehead and nose (”T-zone”). It may appear as one or multiple lesions and gradually increases in size.

It is particularly common among men with oily skin, especially those in middle age and beyond.

Treatment Methods: CO2 Laser, Needle RF (Potenza)

Xanthelasma

A benign tumor that appears as a flat, yellowish bump, commonly found on the upper eyelid.

It often develops in middle age and beyond, gradually spreading. High cholesterol levels increase the risk of developing it, and in such cases, medical treatment is also necessary.

Treatment: CO2 laser for small lesions, excision for large lesions

Milia

A sac-like structure forms on the skin, and keratin accumulates inside it.

It is a white, hard benign tumor.

Treatment: Aspiration (a needle is used to puncture the cyst and remove its contents)

Seborrheic keratosis (senile wart)

Brown in color with a slight bump, it feels rough to the touch.

These appear in middle age and beyond due to ultraviolet rays, often appearing alongside age spots. They are characterized by being slightly raised compared to age spots.

Treatment methods: CO2 laser, liquid nitrogen
