Explanation of the Causes of Sunken Eyes and Treatment
・When the eyebrows rise:
As shown in this diagram, this occurs when the upper eyelid skin becomes lax or when ptosis makes it difficult to open the eyelids, and the person compensates by raising their forehead to see more clearly.
The eyelid is thicker on the brow side and thinner on the lash side.
So when your eyebrows lift, the sparse areas move toward the eyebrow side.
This makes the eyelids appear sunken.
Treatment Methods: Double Eyelid Suture Technique, Ptosis Surgery, Brow Lift Surgery (when necessary)
・When fat is drawn in
When orbital fat is pulled back into the eye socket, the eyelid becomes sunken.
The cause is ptosis.occurs.
The levator aponeurosis, the tendon that opens the eyelid, primarily loses its ability to transmit force with age. In some cases, it detaches from the eyelid and shifts deeper within the eyelid.
The orbital fat exists attached to the levator aponeurosis, so it is simultaneously drawn deep into the eyelid.
Treatment: Ptosis Surgery
Improvement is achieved by moving trapped fat as if pulling it out, and in some cases, fixing and repositioning it.
・Fat atrophy or reduced by surgery
For those with a slender build, it almost invariably occurs due to age-related changes.
With aging, the bone surrounding the eye socket atrophies, causing the space where the eye is housed to expand.
The ligaments supporting the eyeball become loose, causing the eyeball itself to shift downward.
This causes the upper eyelid to become sunken.
Excessive removal of orbital fat during fat removal surgery can cause similar changes.
Treatment: Hyaluronic acid/Fat injection
Adding volume to the eye sockets will improve the appearance.
