As an Assistant Professor, Associate Ward Director, and Chief of Dermatopathology at the university hospital dermatology department, I deepened my expertise through academic presentations and paper publications both domestically and internationally. I have handled a wide range of treatments, from birthmark therapy in children to adult pigmentation concerns, utilizing various lasers and injection therapies, while also contributing to community healthcare. Through encountering numerous cases, I strongly felt the potential and necessity of aesthetic medicine, resolving to pursue further expertise. Building upon my solid dermatological knowledge and meticulous diagnostic skills, I value treatments that gently support each individual's skin while bringing out its inherent beauty.

You're probably familiar with high-dose vitamin C IV drips. You likely also know that vitamin C is good for beauty, and that because it's water-soluble, it gets excreted from the body if not taken daily. How do you incorporate vitamin C into your routine?

The sun's rays are getting stronger, so I imagine we'll be heading to the beach more often. Even if you're diligent about UV protection, it's hard to completely prevent damage from the sun's reflection off the water or sunscreen wearing off.

My go-to remedy for times like that is something with strong antioxidant properties.High-Concentration Vitamin C IV Dripis.

I am Dr. Aya Hayama, a board-certified dermatologist.

Vitamin C

Vitamin C is a vitamin that is very beneficial for both health and beauty.

But did you know that the amount is different? The recommended daily intake of vitamin C for good health is 800-1200 mg.

Vitamin C is also known as ascorbic acid,A compound essential for the production of collagen, a connective protein found in bones and tendonsis.

A deficiency in vitamin C prevents collagen synthesis, leading to the inability to produce vascular endothelial cells. This causes the blood vessels to become fragile, resulting in bleeding.

Also,Intake below 10 mg/day may cause scurvy.←The kind you often see among old sailors.

Other symptoms of scurvy include irritability, poor complexion, anemia, muscle wasting, heart problems, and shortness of breath.

Additionally, it helps maintain the health of capillaries, teeth, and cartilage, suppresses the production of melanin pigment in the skin to prevent sunburn, and strengthens resistance to illnesses such as stress and colds.

LatelyThe antioxidant effects of vitamin CVitamin C is attracting attention, and it is expected to be effective in preventing cancer and arteriosclerosis, as well as in preventing aging.

The Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare also stated in its 2025 report that vitamin C possesses antioxidant properties. L-ascorbic acid captures radicals that cause oxidation in the body and eliminates them by oxidizing itself and converting to L-dehydroascorbic acid.

Vitamin C participates in hydroxylation reactions during collagen synthesis. Deficiency inhibits collagen production as described above, leading to fragile blood vessels and an increased risk of scurvy.

Furthermore, the absorption rate of vitamin C in the digestive tract is considered to be nearly identical whether obtained from dietary intake or supplements. Absorption peaks at 200 mg/day and drops to about 50% at 1 g/day. Furthermore, the oxidized form, hydroascorbic acid, is rapidly converted back to ascorbic acid in the body by reductase enzymes, thus retaining its biological efficacy. Vitamin C levels in the body are regulated by absorption from the digestive tract, recycling within the body, and excretion of unchanged forms by the kidneys. Plasma concentrations are considered to reach saturation at approximately 400 mg/day.

Upon examining this, it becomes clear that even if you diligently consume vitamin C, its water-soluble nature means it is excreted within a day, and most is utilized to maintain health. Therefore, a significantly higher concentration of vitamin C is required for beauty purposes. Please also note that it is essential for collagen production.

Here, our BIANCA CLINIC's aesthetic medicine specialistsProfessor MaedaI would also like to introduce.

He's an admired doctor renowned for his exceptional intelligence among his peers in internal medicine and other departments—even those unrelated to aesthetics—and possesses extensive knowledge in aesthetic medicine!!

I'm so disappointed our appointments don't overlap... But I secretly joined the Aesthetic Medicine Society too.

Borrowing a bit from Dr. Maeda's words, I'd like to share my thoughts on high-concentration vitamin C.

High-concentration Vitamin C

The effects of high-dose vitamin C IV therapy undoubtedly boost energy levels by hydrating the body, butA study has reported that when healthy individuals received either high-dose vitamin C intravenous therapy or normal saline intravenous therapy, the high-dose vitamin C therapy showed a clear improvement in fatigue.

High-concentration vitamin C IV therapy involves directly injecting high-concentration vitamin C into the bloodstream via intravenous drip. This elevates blood levels of vitamin C, enabling it to reach all parts of the body. It addresses not only health concerns but also skin issues. Furthermore, as mentioned earlier, this treatment provides inner care by promoting fatigue recovery, stress relief, and immune system enhancement.
Humans cannot produce vitamin C within their bodies, so it is necessary to consciously consume vitamin C.

One of the benefits of high-concentration vitamin C IV therapy is its anti-aging effects on the skin.
Vitamin C helps suppress the synthesis of melanin, which causes dark spots, making it effective for improving and preventing dark spots and melasma. It also promotes collagen production to maintain skin elasticity, effectively addressing wrinkles and sagging that occur as skin ages.

The effectiveness of high-concentration vitamin C IV drips also depends on the quality of the formulation. BIANCA's high-concentration vitamin C IV drip is characterized by using a formulation with a high concentration of vitamin C. Furthermore, it is balanced with protein, magnesium and calcium to support metabolic function, and B vitamins, which are often deficient in modern diets. B vitamins help repair cells and are expected to contribute to maintaining healthy skin.

Vitamin C is also characterized by its antioxidant properties, which suppress free radicals—substances linked to fatigue and aging, though not necessarily leading to scurvy. It is highly effective for concerns like persistent fatigue and age-related changes in physical condition. Additionally, medical institutions sometimes use it as an adjunct therapy for conditions such as malignant tumors.

The cost of high-concentration vitamin C IV drips varies by clinic. However, vitamin C IV solutions made by domestic manufacturers are not intended for use in high-concentration drips, so preservatives are added to the small 2g formulations. Using this formulation for a 25g high-concentration vitamin C IV drip increases the amount of preservative, raising the risk of allergic reactions and other issues. In contrast, imported formulations from overseas contain no preservatives, though their cost is higher due to shipping volume. Therefore, please understand that shipping fees and other costs inevitably make the overall price higher.

Here's a personal musing from me, a dermatologist...

It's only natural to think daily IV drips are impossible.

Therefore, I personally believe it's a good idea to schedule IV drips during periods like when UV rays are strong, or when you want to target skin whitening after UV exposure has subsided, or when you're feeling fatigued. It's also beneficial to administer them for a few days before and after sun exposure during leisure activities.

Also, for those who dislike needles, we recommend cosmetics, Mesona J, and vitamin C packs!!
