Double eyelid surgery: full incision or buried suture? Honestly, which one is better?!
With deep medical insight cultivated as an internal medicine specialist, I bridge aesthetic surgery, dermatology, and internal medicine. Having spent my childhood in China, I communicate fluently in Japanese, Chinese, English, and Korean. Possessing an international perspective—evidenced by invitations to present at overseas conferences—I actively promote techniques as a Key Opinion Leader (KOL) for GOURI and REJURAN®. My specialty procedures include double eyelid surgery, skin-nurturing boosters, and body hyaluronic acid treatments. My approach leverages the holistic understanding of the body cultivated through internal medicine to guide patients toward natural, healthy beauty.
Good evening, everyone.
I am Hime-sensei of BIANCA.
At night, I like to sleep wrapped in a blanket with the air conditioner set a bit stronger.
Today's theme remains forever unanswered.
”Is full incision or buried suture better for double eyelid surgery?”
I'd like to talk about...

Everyone, aren't you thinking of full incision as permanent and buried sutures as something that can be removed?
In fact, even full incision surgery is not absolutely permanent.
Many people can maintain their double eyelids semi-permanently if they thoroughly perform the basic preparatory steps.
There are still a certain number of people who can get the lines thinner.
Conversely, some people have had them buried for decades. Both are in the minority, though.
The advantage of full incision, in my opinion, is that
・The ability to freely design your desired double eyelid line to the utmost extent
・For eyelids with significant sagging, even when buried sutures fail to create a clean line, a beautiful double eyelid can still be achieved.
(with skin excision)
・Can simultaneously correct eye opening (combined with ptosis)
・When the eyelids are thick, it is expected that buried double eyelid surgery will result in ham-shaped eyes or that the sutures will come out quickly.
Full incision surgery creates a more defined double eyelid than the buried suture method.
and for those who fit this description, we often recommend full incision.
Next, the disadvantages of full incision.
・Once surgery is performed, it becomes difficult to change the design (especially if you want to revert to the original appearance).
・Long downtime
・The incision line is slightly more noticeable compared to buried sutures.
However, the incision line tends to be more noticeable when deep incisions are made during buried suture procedures,
Scars on the eyelids tend to heal more cleanly than those on other parts of the face, so you might not need to worry about them too much.
Based on the above, the double eyelid procedure I recommend is:
For first-time surgery, we perform the procedure using the buried suture method unless the eyelids are excessively heavy.
So, I want you to clearly visualize your doubled self,
If you want to permanently fix the line in place, I think switching to a full incision is the best option.

When considering double eyelid surgery, always choose a doctor who can perform both full incision and suture methods.
(This is quite important)
Why not try counseling?
