Botox injections can be used for the platysma muscle, shoulders, and sweating too!

As an Assistant Professor, Associate Ward Director, and Chief of Dermatopathology at the university hospital dermatology department, I deepened my expertise through academic presentations and paper publications both domestically and internationally. I have handled a wide range of treatments, from birthmark therapy in children to adult pigmentation concerns, utilizing various lasers and injection therapies, while also contributing to community healthcare. Through encountering numerous cases, I strongly felt the potential and necessity of aesthetic medicine, resolving to pursue further expertise. Building upon my solid dermatological knowledge and meticulous diagnostic skills, I value treatments that gently support each individual's skin while bringing out its inherent beauty.

We will introduce the effects of Botox injections administered from the neck to the shoulders.

First, a quick recap on Botox: Since it primarily works by suppressing muscle contraction, it is effective for improving and preventing shallow wrinkles like expression lines, as well as for stopping sweating by inhibiting acetylcholine release.

I am Dr. Aya Hayama, a board-certified dermatologist.

Attention everyone!!

My workdays have increased starting this month!!We will be able to provide more regular follow-ups, so we appreciate your continued support.

Today, rather than focusing on facial wrinkles, I'd like to write about special techniques for the shoulders, trapezius muscles, and sweat control.

Splenius capitis

The platysma is one of the very thin facial muscles located on the front of the neck. It creates expressions of surprise or tension, pulls down the corners of the mouth, and tightens the skin of the neck. Therefore,When you're very tense, your jawline may appear to sag.
Botox injections into the sternocleidomastoid muscle relax its tension, therebyExpect an effect that makes your entire face appear lifted.Yes, I can.
Additionally, it relaxes the prominent vertical neck lines (muscle tension) that become noticeable with age.Keep the neck area neat and tidyIt is also possible.
Furthermore, the balance of facial muscles is restored,It is also expected to promote favorable movement of muscles involved in lifting (such as the zygomaticus major and masseter muscles).Yes, I can.

However, depending on how Botox is administered, side effects and risks may also exist.
Particularly, the platysma muscle is very thin anatomically and is adjacent to important muscles, so careful treatment is required.
For example, if the sternocleidomastoid muscle and adjacent depressor anguli oris and mentalis muscles are affected, symptoms such as drooping of the corners of the mouth or difficulty smiling may occur.
Although extremely rare, excessive dosage or injection into deep tissue may affect the swallowing muscles, potentially causing difficulty swallowing.

Furthermore, excessive injection or relaxation can cause the supporting muscles to become overly lax, potentially leading to a loss of volume as they can no longer maintain facial structure.
Facial balance may become disrupted, making the lower face appear heavy (aggravating sagging), or emphasizing a sunken appearance and vertical wrinkles.

What I most hope for with shoulder Botox is,Relief from stiff shouldersWouldn't you agree?

Injecting Botox into the trapezius muscle (the thick muscle running from the base of the neck to the shoulders and upper back) can alleviate excessive muscle tension. This may reduce pain associated with chronic shoulder stiffness and improve feelings of heaviness and tightness.

Personally, I suffer from chronic shoulder stiffness that sometimes causes tension headaches, so this treatment is one I'm grateful for...

However, while it can be effective for shoulder stiffness caused by muscle tension, since the shoulder muscles aren't solely composed of the trapezius, it may not resolve the issue or could even make the neck feel heavier. Furthermore, it won't improve stiffness caused by posture, skeletal issues, eye strain, or stress.

Another advantage—in fact, I believe this is the most effective one—Create a sleek shoulder line (shoulder slimming effect)There is.

When the trapezius muscles are tense, it can make your shoulders appear broad or your neck look short. However, by relieving excessive shoulder tension and using Botox to immobilize the muscles, the effect of disuse atrophy (where unused muscles become thinner) can be expected. This results in a smoother shoulder line and a more delicate appearance. Some people notice they look better in dresses with open shoulders or sleeveless styles, such as those worn at weddings.

The duration of effect is generally considered to be approximately 3 to 7 days until the effect is felt, with peak effect occurring around 2 to 4 weeks later, and the duration lasting approximately 3 to 6 months.

Please note that Botox weakens muscle strength, so caution is advised for those in jobs involving heavy lifting or athletes.

Sweat Stop

By inhibiting acetylcholine, which triggers sweat release, it is also possible to stop sweating.

Therefore, it tends to sweat easily.Summer underarm sweatMicro Botox for the face (a method involving shallow, widespread injections of very small amounts compared to regular Botox)By doing this, your makeup will go on more smoothly and you'll be less prone to facial sweating.

If the concentration of facial Botox is too high, it can also affect the facial muscles, making them difficult to move.

Here's a personal musing from me, a dermatologist...

Botox treatments are delicate procedures where the final results vary significantly based on the doctor's skill and experience.

Muscle structure and movement vary from person to person, so even with the same dosage, the degree of effect differs depending on how Botox is injected. It is also crucial to determine whether Botox injections are the appropriate treatment for each patient. For those considering ongoing Botox injections, the same doctor will be responsible for your care from the initial treatment through regular maintenance sessions, so please feel free to try it with confidence. If you have specific areas of concern, requesting the same doctor for subsequent visits allows them to tailor the dosage and injection sites based on your individual characteristics, leading to better results.
