As an Assistant Professor, Associate Ward Director, and Chief of Dermatopathology at the university hospital dermatology department, I deepened my expertise through academic presentations and paper publications both domestically and internationally. I have handled a wide range of treatments, from birthmark therapy in children to adult pigmentation concerns, utilizing various lasers and injection therapies, while also contributing to community healthcare. Through encountering numerous cases, I strongly felt the potential and necessity of aesthetic medicine, resolving to pursue further expertise. Building upon my solid dermatological knowledge and meticulous diagnostic skills, I value treatments that gently support each individual's skin while bringing out its inherent beauty.

Placenta therapy offers a variety of potential benefits!

I am Dr. Aya Hayama, a board-certified dermatologist.

Placenta literally translates to "afterbirth." Placenta injections use "placenta extract," which refers to a liquid containing components extracted from the placenta.

The placenta supplies all the nutrients and growth factors necessary for fetal development. Consequently, placenta extract contains high concentrations of numerous nutrients essential for maintaining life, such as vitamins, amino acids, hyaluronic acid, and minerals, along with various enzymes, cell proliferation factors, and cytokines.

The main components of placenta extract derived from the placenta include the following:

Ingredient Category Examples of main ingredients Functions and characteristics
amino acid Glycine, alanine, etc. Skin regeneration and repair, collagen production
growth factor EGF, FGF, HGF, etc. Promotion of cell proliferation and repair
Vitamin Group B, C, etc. Antioxidant effects, metabolism boost
Mineral Iron, zinc, calcium, etc. Maintaining bodily functions and hormonal balance
Enzyme Various enzymes Supports metabolism
nucleic acid DNA, RNA Cell division and the transmission of genetic information
Mucopolysaccharides hyaluronic acid, etc. Moisturizing and maintaining skin elasticity
Expected beauty and health benefits (individual results may vary)
Field Expected Effects
Beauty Improved skin firmness, prevention of dark spots and wrinkles, whitening effects, etc.
Hormonal balance Alleviating menopausal symptoms, improving irregular menstruation
Fatigue recovery Physical recovery, stress reduction
Liver function protection Improvement of liver function (also used in medical settings)
Anti-aging Support for Cellular Rejuvenation
Differences Between Medical Devices and Over-the-Counter Products
Item Medical placenta injections (e.g., Laennec) Over-the-counter supplements and cosmetics
Raw materials Human placenta-derived Pork, horse, sheep, and other animal-derived
Instructions for Use Injection (intramuscular injection, subcutaneous injection) Oral intake / Topical application
Effectiveness Recognized for its medical efficacy (e.g., improvement of liver function) There is significant individual variation.
Purchase Medical examination is required. Available at drugstores and online
Whether blood donation restrictions apply Yes (Human-derived users are ineligible for blood donation) None (animal-derived)

These placenta injections use human-derived products, specifically Laennec (originally used for improving liver function under insurance coverage) and Melsmon (used for lactation insufficiency). Both are pharmaceuticals approved by the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare. They undergo infectious disease testing at Red Cross hospitals that handle blood transfusion products.

This treatment improves symptoms caused by reduced natural healing abilities, such as stiff shoulders, poor circulation, headaches, and anemia. It also enhances liver function, provides nourishment and strength, and offers anti-aging effects. By boosting metabolism, it promotes blood circulation, improves skin elasticity, and addresses concerns like dark spots, wrinkles, and acne for a more beautiful complexion. Antioxidant benefits are also expected. Placenta injections are easy to receive and are effective for non-illness-related fatigue, lethargy, and other discomforts, as well as for beauty concerns like rough skin, dryness, and acne. Surprisingly, it's not widely known that getting an injection before drinking alcohol can also help reduce hangovers and the effects of excessive drinking.

Please note that for those who have received placenta injections, it is important to be aware that since placenta is derived from human placental extract, a human organ, placenta injection medication carries a "theoretical risk that cannot be ruled out." Therefore, individuals who have undergone treatment with placenta injection medication will no longer be eligible to donate blood.

Treatment Method

Intramuscular injections are the most common method, but subcutaneous injections are also possible.

⭐Direct application to the face is expected to deliver immediate benefits for improving skin texture. Additionally, since it helps retain some moisture, it's also recommended for injection into areas like nasolabial folds and marionette lines.

⭐For stiff shoulders, injecting directly into the tense area also serves as a form of myofascial release, so I believe it can be beneficial for shoulder stiffness.

Please consult your physician regarding the required number of ampoules, the number of injections, the interval between injections, and the injection site.
