How long does the surgery take to remove the adnexa?
For removal of the labia minora only, about 30 minutes. If labia minora reduction is also performed, the procedure takes 60 to 90 minutes. However, since there is an additional anesthesia time, the total procedure time is the surgery time plus 1 to 2 hours (anesthesia time).
Is the removal of the adnexa painful?
Local or intravenous anesthesia is used during the surgery to remove and suture the paracutaneous skin with as much attention to pain as possible. For those who are concerned about postoperative pain, anesthesia and analgesics are available to reduce pain for approximately 72 hours.
Is there anything I should be aware of how to spend my time after surgery for paracutaneous removal?
Showering is allowed the next day as long as the pubic area is not rubbed too hard. However, please refrain from prolonged showers, alcohol consumption, and other activities that increase blood flow for one week. Bathing, sexual intercourse, bicycling, and exercise are allowed after 2 weeks without stitches (1 month with stitches). Please refrain from smoking for one month after the surgery. Do I need to go back to the hospital after the removal of the adnexal skin?
For those with stitches, please come back in one week to have them removed. Patients without stitches will be asked to come back in one month for observation. After that, you may need to visit the clinic for 3 months or 6 months. The doctor will inform you of the details.
Can I undergo adnexal skin removal during menstruation?
Yes, it is possible. Tampons must be used during the surgery.
Is the removal of the adnexal skin covered by insurance?
The removal of the paracutaneous skin is an uninsured, free treatment.
Is there a possibility that the adnexa, once removed, can become enlarged again?
There is no possibility that friction or dryness will cause the skin to sag and the adnexa to stretch. Rest assured, however, that enlargement is not expected to occur on its own.
