Determined the pigment and skin condition
BIANCA Method: Step-by-Step Permanent Makeup Removal

In recent years, with the increase in new artists, there has been a rise in cases where treatments are provided without sufficient practice or knowledge. As a result, many cases of permanent makeup failures have been reported.

Removing permanent makeup is not a simple procedure, as the appropriate approach varies depending on the type of pigment used and its depth of placement.

Bianca Clinic offers both Korean-style permanent makeup removal and medical permanent makeup removal. While the equipment used is the same, the irradiation output differs. The standard procedure is to first attempt Korean-style removal; if it proves ineffective, we then recommend medical removal. We provide safe and meticulous removal treatments, carefully considering the potential impact on your skin.

CHARACTERISTICS

Permanent Makeup Removal

Permanent makeup removal is a procedure that uses medical-grade laser equipment to break down and expel the pigment embedded in the skin. While permanent makeup typically lasts about 1 to 3 years and gradually fades due to skin turnover, it remains visible for several years. Consequently, more people are seeking removal due to fading, design changes, or discomfort with the shape.

Methods for removing permanent makeup include chemical treatments, surgical excision, and touch-ups for adjustments. However, laser treatment is now the mainstream approach, considered relatively low-risk and highly safe. Medical lasers are used to break down pigment particles into smaller fragments, which are then expelled through the body's natural metabolic processes.

Using the medical laser device "PicoSure"

The device used for permanent makeup removal is the medical-grade picosecond laser system “PICOSURE®”. PICOSURE is an advanced laser developed by Cynosure, Inc., an American medical laser equipment manufacturer, and is a leading model of "picosecond lasers" that deliver pulses in units of one trillionth of a second.

Tattoo removal and permanent makeup removal, along with various other treatments such as dark spots, melasma, acne scars, and wrinkles, have been approved by the FDA (U.S. Food and Drug Administration). They are highly regarded for both safety and efficacy.

At Bianca Clinic, we adjust the output level according to the purpose—using low power for Korean-style permanent makeup removal and high power for removal performed by a physician. We propose the most suitable treatment based on the condition of your permanent makeup and skin.

Differences from Permanent Makeup Removal Using Q-Switched Lasers

Q-switched lasers are medical devices used for permanent makeup removal. Q-switched lasers work by destroying ink particles with thermal energy, which can cause burns at the treatment site and lead to downtime issues like redness and swelling. In contrast, PicoSure shatters pigment using shockwaves rather than heat. By breaking down pigment into finer particles, it becomes easier for the body to absorb, resulting in highly effective removal.

Furthermore, conventional lasers only reacted to black pigment, requiring alternative methods for removing colorful tattoos and permanent makeup. However, PicoSure can now target diverse pigments that were previously difficult to remove.

Additionally, compared to Q-switched lasers, the treatment time is significantly shorter, minimizing thermal damage to the skin and resulting in less downtime after the procedure. Consequently, the treatment period can be reduced to approximately half that of conventional lasers.

Custom irradiation is possible according to the type and depth of pigmentation

The pigments used in permanent makeup react differently depending on their type and depth of placement. At our clinic, we meticulously adjust the laser settings to match each pigment's specific condition, aiming for effective removal.

Compared to conventional permanent makeup removal, it has a shorter downtime.

RECOMMENDED POINTS

Professional judgment in analyzing pigments and skin determines the final result.

Permanent makeup removal may appear simple at first glance, but it is actually a procedure requiring extremely delicate judgment. The appropriate removal method varies depending on the type of pigment and its depth of placement.

For instance, depending on the pigment used—such as black, brown, red, or blue—some colors may react poorly to laser treatment, while others may appear darker and more prominent. This is precisely why having a practitioner with the experience and knowledge to identify pigments leads to a safe and highly satisfying outcome.

Thoroughly check pigmentation and skin condition during the pre-removal examination

The condition of permanent makeup varies from person to person depending on the area treated, the type of pigment used, the depth of application, and skin type. Therefore, it is crucial to carefully examine and confirm the skin condition and pigment type before performing removal.

At Bianca Clinic, consultations are conducted by physicians specializing in medical permanent makeup. After carefully assessing pigment retention and skin reactions, we propose the necessary number of sessions and duration of treatment.

We strive to provide careful, personalized planning for each individual to ensure removal is achieved comfortably and with as little burden as possible.

We also offer package deals for those interested in getting new permanent makeup.

Many clients express a desire to remove their current permanent makeup and start with a new design. At Bianca Clinic, we offer a special package combining eyebrow removal and a new procedure.

We carefully adjust the removal area and depth with the next permanent makeup design in mind. Rather than simply “erasing,” we proceed systematically to build the foundation for your ideal outcome.

This plan is also recommended for those wishing to receive treatment by world-renowned permanent makeup artist ANZY.

Treatment Process

CONTENT OF TREATMENT

Physician's examination and counseling

After a medical consultation to assess your permanent makeup condition, we will propose the necessary number of treatments. Please feel free to consult us with any concerns or questions.

treatment

Korean-style permanent makeup removal uses pico toning, so the procedure is performed without anesthesia. Permanent makeup removal performed by a physician uses pico spot, so topical anesthesia is applied before the procedure and the treatment is conducted once the anesthesia has taken full effect.

Aftercare

Makeup application is possible the day after permanent makeup removal. To reduce the risk of hyperpigmentation, avoid irritating the treated area. When washing your face and performing skincare, do so gently without rubbing, and be sure to moisturize thoroughly. Furthermore, sun exposure to the treated area can cause post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, so take adequate measures to protect against UV rays.

Frequently Asked Questions About Permanent Makeup Removal

Q&A

After permanent makeup removal, when can I start wearing makeup again?

Makeup application is possible on the day of treatment. However, if your skin feels irritated, please wait until the treated area has fully settled before using mild cosmetics.

Is there any swelling or redness after permanent makeup removal?

Individual results may vary, but swelling and redness may occur after treatment. Swelling typically lasts a few days to a week, while redness may persist for several weeks to months. These symptoms will subside over time. Please contact us if symptoms persist.

Will scabs form after permanent makeup removal with a pico laser?

Pico lasers cause minimal skin damage, so scabs do not form. The color gradually fades over about one month.

When can I take a bath or shower after permanent makeup removal?

Showering is possible starting on the day of your procedure. Please make an effort to keep the treated area clean. Bathing is also possible starting the next day.

When can I resume exercise after permanent makeup removal?

There are no restrictions on movement as long as the treatment area is not directly stimulated.

When can I start drinking alcohol and smoking after permanent makeup removal?

Alcohol consumption and smoking can affect blood vessels and blood flow, potentially worsening inflammation. Please refrain from these activities for at least 48 hours after treatment. After that, we ask that you continue to avoid them as much as possible until any redness or swelling subsides.

Can I get permanent makeup removal even if I have a tan?

Sunburned skin is more sensitive, increasing the risk of laser treatments. Please schedule your treatment after your sunburn has subsided. Also, be sure to take thorough precautions against UV rays after your treatment.

Does permanent makeup removal hurt?

Korean-style permanent makeup removal uses low energy levels during treatment, so you'll feel almost no pain. Permanent makeup removal performed by a doctor uses anesthesia and high energy levels. While pain is reduced, you may feel a sensation like being flicked by a rubber band.

Can pigment become darker after permanent makeup removal?

With Korean-style permanent makeup removal, pigment darkening is rare. However, depending on the pigment type, complete removal in a single session may not be possible, and residual coloration—such as a shift from brown to orange—can occur. When performed by a physician, pigment may temporarily appear darker, but it gradually fades with the skin's natural turnover. Post-treatment, progress is closely monitored, and additional sessions are performed as needed.

Can I get permanent makeup reapplied immediately after removal?

Re-treatment cannot be performed until your skin has fully recovered. A minimum interval of approximately four weeks is required. We will advise you based on the physician's judgment.
