What is the Hamra Method? Features and the difference between the front and back hamula methods explained in simple terms.
As a board-certified plastic surgeon by the Japanese Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, he has been engaged in a wide variety of periocular surgeries at university hospitals. Based on his solid anatomical knowledge and suturing skills, he is in charge of a wide range of surgeries around the eyes including sub-brow incisions and blepharoplasty incisions, as well as hyaluronic acid injections, Botox injections, and thread lifts. We also accept insurance coverage for droopy eyelids and inner eyelashes. We value natural and elegant results, and are known for our attentive counseling that attends to the patient's feelings.

Hello!
I am Yumi Hattori, a plastic surgeon who “fulfills patients” ideal image through in-depth counseling. At Bianca Clinic, I am called "Dr. Yumi. This time, I would like to talk about the "Hamra method" among the surgeries around the eyes that I perform in my daily practice. The Hamra method is a surgery that gives the eyes a youthful appearance. I have the impression that the word "hamula" itself is rather well known due to the influence of celebrities who have publicly announced that they have undergone the procedure and beauty clinics in Korea that introduce it as a mainstream method of removing dark circles.
Just,
What kind of surgery is the hamula procedure?"
What's the difference between a front and back hamula?"
We often hear such comments in our daily practice. To answer such questions, we will explain it in an easy-to-understand manner, so if you are interested in the Hamula Method, please check it out until the end.
What is the Hamra Method?
The Hamra method is a surgery that simultaneously approaches sagging and uneven skin under the eyes by moving the orbital fat under the eyes into the hollows around the eyes, leading to flattened eyes.
In other words, the Hamra method is

The volume balance of the eye area is adjusted by
What can be expected from the Hamra method is as follows
- Reduces the appearance of under-eye bumps.
- Long-lasting effects can be expected.
- Aiming for younger looking eyes
- Lack of recurrence of dark circles
Incidentally, the name of the Hamula Method is derived from the name of Dr. Hamula, an American plastic and cosmetic surgeon who first published it as a paper. For more detailed information, please check our menu page.

Cases in which the Hamra method is indicated
As the ligaments and orbicularis oculus muscle around the eyes deteriorate with age, the orbital fat that can no longer support the eye pushes out and the area under the eye bulges. As a result, the lower eyelid becomes uneven and shadowy, resulting in dark circles. The Hamra Method is considered in cases where there are “dark circles, sagging, and puffiness” under the eyes. Specifically, it is suitable for those who have the following problems
- The skin under my eyes is sagging, making me look older.
- Sagging, wrinkles and dark circles under the eyes
- I want to do something about the aged look around my eyes.
- The shadows around my eyes won't go away.
- People around me say I look tired.
However, it is up to the doctor to decide if the hamula method is indicated, so please consult with us if you have any problems around your eyes ✨.
Difference between front and back hamula methods
There are two types of hamra methods: the front hamra method and the back hamra method. Incidentally, the front hamula method is sometimes referred to as the Hamra method. In the front and back hamula methods,
- Whether to remove excess skin under the eyes
- Position of approach to orbital fat
are different. Deglycation simply removes orbital fat, while the front and back hamula techniques approach sagging and puffiness by moving and fixing the orbital fat. Therefore, it is said that this technique is less likely to cause dark circles to recur.
<What is the Omote Hamra Method? >What is the Hamra Method?

This is a technique in which an incision is made near the eyelashes of the lower eyelid, and the fat is moved and fixed plus the excess skin under the eye is trimmed. By moving and fixing the orbital fat in the depressed area, the risk of under-eye concavity is avoided. It also approaches dark circles and sagging by removing sagging skin at the same time.
Indicated case: Excess skin under the eyes
Surgery time: approximately 90 minutes (depending on the individual)
<What is the back hamula method? >What is the back hamula method?

This technique approaches from the conjunctival side (mucosa on the back of the lower eyelid) to move and fix the orbital fat and approach dark circles and sagging around the eyes. One of the features of the Ura-Hamra method is that it has a relatively low risk of complications and preserves the orbicularis oculus muscle, which forms the tear trough, making it difficult to lose the tear trough. Like the Hamra technique, the back Hamra technique also avoids the risk of concavity under the eyes.
Indicated case: no excess skin
Surgery time: approximately 90 minutes (depending on the individual)
We use ophthalmic and local anesthesia for both surgeries, and can also use a combination of relaxing, intravenous, and laughing anesthesia. Please be assured that we take pain anxiety into consideration in our surgeries.
