Inverted nipples refer to nipples that are sunken when not stimulated. A common cause is an imbalance in the development of the “mammary glands” that produce breast milk and the “milk ducts” through which milk flows. If the milk duct tissue is underdeveloped compared to the mammary glands, or if the milk ducts become stiff, the force pulling the nipple inward becomes stronger, causing the nipple to become inverted.
Concerns about inverted nipples vary widely, including worries about appearance, lack of confidence in one's breasts, uncertainty about treatment options, difficulty cleaning or itching, and challenges with breastfeeding. At BIANCA CLINIC, we carefully perform incisions and suturing while taking care to minimize stress on the delicate nipple area.

CHARACTERISTICSInverted Nipple Correction Surgery
Inverted nipple correction is a procedure that reshapes the nipple by drawing out and securing flat or inverted nipples. Various techniques exist for inverted nipple correction. At Bianca Clinic, we primarily use the Namba method, Teimourian method, and Sakai method for treatment. Our attending physicians will listen to each patient's concerns and symptoms and propose the most suitable technique.
【What is the Namba Method?】
Make 2 to 3 small Z-shaped incisions around the nipple, gently pull it out, and secure it in a stable position. This technique prevents recurrence of inversion by firmly tightening the underlying tissue.
【What is the Teimourian Method?】
A triangular incision is made in the skin around the nipple, creating two small skin flaps. After pulling the nipple out to resolve the retraction, these flaps are crossed to form a base and secured with sutures. The crossed flaps support the nipple, preventing recurrence of the inversion.
【What is the Sakai Law?】
The retracted nipple is incised vertically, and the fibrous tissue causing retraction is treated without damaging the milk ducts. Next, triangular skin flaps are crossed to form a bridge, stabilizing the nipple before suturing. This bridge maintains the nipple's position, preventing recurrence of inversion.
Classification of Inverted Nipples
The degree of nipple inversion varies from person to person. Generally, nipples that protrude when pulled or stimulated by a finger but then retract are called "pseudomammary nipples," while those that remain inverted even after stimulation are called "true inverted nipples." The appropriate treatment differs depending on the degree of inversion (grade).
For mild to moderate cases, our experienced physicians at Bianca Clinic will determine the appropriate technique, such as the Namba method or Teimourian method. For severe cases, the Sakai method is employed.
A beautiful finish that minimizes visible marks while maintaining functionality
The area around the nipple heals quickly and is less prone to noticeable scarring. Over time after surgery, the sutured area will blend naturally with the wrinkles of the nipple and areola.
At Bianca Clinic, our physicians conduct thorough examinations and propose techniques that minimize scarring. We also prioritize preserving nipple function by employing treatments that carefully avoid damaging milk ducts. Our clinic welcomes patients seeking a beautiful, natural result with minimal scarring from inverted nipple correction, as well as those aiming to alleviate concerns about future breastfeeding.

RECOMMENDED POINTS
Surprisingly many people are troubled by inverted nipples.
Although it's an area not usually visible to others, concerns related to the nipple are a common reason for seeking medical consultation. We see patients with inverted nipples, those with short nipples protruding only about 5mm, and those with hypertrophic nipples protruding up to 2.5cm. At Bianca Clinic, inverted nipple correction is one of our most popular procedures. It is also available for male patients.
At Bianca Clinic, we also offer treatments such as nipple reduction and areola reduction for procedures involving the nipple and areola. Whether it's inverted nipples or any other concerns, please feel free to consult with us without hesitation.
Inverted nipples affect not only appearance but also function and health.
Inverted nipples present challenges not only cosmetically but also functionally and health-wise. True inverted nipples can make breastfeeding difficult, while pseudo-inverted nipples may allow breastfeeding but can trap debris in the inverted area, increasing the risk of mastitis.
This condition can be improved by undergoing inverted nipple surgery to eliminate the tendency for inversion and adhesions. This procedure helps reduce the likelihood of breastfeeding difficulties, making it suitable for women concerned about the risk of breastfeeding problems or those considering pregnancy and childbirth in the future. Consider this treatment not only for aesthetic improvement but also to reduce potential hygiene risks.
We also address concerns regarding male nipples
Inverted nipple correction is a procedure chosen not only by women but also by men who "lack confidence in their body or specific features" or "desire a more refined appearance." Our clinic also treats male inverted nipples, providing support to achieve natural and well-defined nipples.
At Bianca Clinic, we are expanding our HommeCare menu—a term combining “HOMME” (man) and "CARE"—to help men achieve their "best selves" in appearance, function, and spirit. Changing your appearance can also build inner confidence. That's the strength of Homme Care. Beyond inverted nipple correction, we offer treatments addressing a wide range of male concerns. If you're interested in aesthetic medicine, please feel free to consult with us.

Frequently Asked Questions About Inverted Nipple Surgery
Q&AWill the surgical scar be noticeable?
The incision is made along the edge of the nipple and areola, so the scar is barely noticeable. Over time after surgery, the sutured area will blend naturally with the wrinkles of the nipple and areola.
Is there any pain during the surgery?
No pain is felt during surgery due to anesthesia. Our clinic offers intravenous anesthesia, relaxation anesthesia, and nitrous oxide anesthesia.
How long does the surgery take?
Bianca Clinic's inverted nipple correction surgery typically takes about 2 to 3 hours.
Does inverted nipple surgery affect breastfeeding?
Some techniques for inverted nipple correction can preserve milk ducts. At Bianca Clinic, we perform surgery with careful consideration to avoid damaging milk ducts, enabling procedures that also take into account the impact on breastfeeding.
How long is the downtime?
Individual results may vary, but generally, swelling and bruising subside within about one week to ten days. For a few days after surgery, you may experience some pain or discomfort, though it should not interfere with your daily activities.
Are there any precautions regarding how to spend time after the treatment?
Washing your face and applying makeup are possible starting the day of the procedure, but showering is permitted only after 3 days. The treated area must be protected with gauze for one week. Bathing and exercise are permitted only after 2 weeks, when you return for a follow-up visit and the sutures are removed.
Is there a possibility of inverted nipples recurring after surgery?
Inverted nipples may recur depending on the condition, but surgery to fix the nipple significantly reduces the risk of recurrence. If recurrence occurs, another surgery may be considered.
Is inverted nipple surgery covered by insurance?
Bianca Clinic's inverted nipple correction surgery is not covered by insurance.
Can children undergo inverted nipple surgery?
Inverted nipples may improve naturally with growth, and observation is typically recommended until adolescence or young adulthood. Depending on the symptoms, our clinic primarily treats patients from high school age and older. If you have any concerns or questions, please feel free to contact us.
Are there any treatments for inverted nipples besides surgery?
For mild cases of inverted nipples, non-surgical treatments like suction therapy or massage may offer improvement. However, it's important to note that these methods and self-care often cannot provide a complete cure and carry a high risk of recurrence. If you have "severe inverted nipples" or "desire a fundamental solution," please consider inverted nipple correction surgery.
