Specialist in midface and scar revision. While being involved in scar treatment, blepharoplasty, and skin cancer surgery as a plastic surgeon, I have also trained as a cosmetic surgeon. His emphasis is to provide aging care based on the harmony of the entire face, not just localized areas. We use hyaluronic acid and fat to restore the natural fullness and roundness of the face while reusing as much fat as possible to counteract the loss of volume that occurs with aging. We also focus on scar revision to make scars as inconspicuous as possible.
We offer tailored facelift menus to address your specific facial concerns.
Many people suffer from the appearance of midface thinning as they age, such as sagging under the eyes, tiatraf* and gorgon lines that are prominent. The midface lift is a procedure that directly addresses the cause of such sagging with surgery.
BIANCA CLINIC offers a wide range of sagging treatment options, including surgery, thread lifts, and instrumental procedures. Among these, the midface lift is a surgical procedure to achieve a three-dimensional and youthful appearance from the eyes to the cheeks by pulling up the appropriate layers of fat and supporting tissues that make up the midface.
There are multiple techniques for midface lifts, and the indications vary depending on your concerns, skeletal structure, and desired results. We offer three techniques: supraperiosteal, subperiosteal, and dual plane, and suggest the appropriate method.
Bianca Clinic is staffed by highly experienced doctors, including plastic surgeons certified by the Japanese Society of Plastic Surgery. We will propose the appropriate surgical technique and treatment plan according to the patient's concerns, wishes, and condition.

CHARACTERISTICSMid-Face Lift
The midface lift is a cosmetic surgical procedure that raises the drooping midface with soft tissue and fixes it to the periosteum, smoothing it from the lower eyelid (lower eyelid) to the cheeks and giving it a youthful, balanced appearance.
There are multiple techniques for midface lifts, including approaches from the crease of the lower eyelid as well as from the temples and intrafacial incisions, depending on the facial conditions and goals of the patient. All of these techniques are expected to reduce the appearance of sagging cheeks, gorgon lines, and laugh lines by pulling up the appropriate layers of fat and supportive tissue in the cheeks, and to give a cleaner look to the midface from under the eyes to the nose.
Because it directly approaches the tissues that cause sagging, such as skin, muscle, and fat, it is also characterized by its potential for long-term lifting effects. The incision site varies depending on the surgical technique, but in all cases, the incision is placed in a position that is less noticeable.
Supraperiosteal and subperiosteal mid face lift
The supraperiosteal and subperiosteal midface lift is a technique that raises the midface by approaching from the crease of the lower eyelid.
・Midface Lift (Superperiosteal) … A surgical technique where the periosteum is dissected from the lower lash line upward to elevate cheek fat, which is then sutured and fixed to the orbital periosteum. Like the open Hamra technique, an incision is made along the lower lash line.
Mid facelift (subperiosteal): The anterior surface of the zygomatic bone is dissected from beneath the periosteum and sutured together with the periosteum of the suborbital margin, the orbital septum, and orbital fat. It requires a wider dissection than the supraperiosteal dissection. It is characterized by its high strength and resistance to retroversion.
These techniques can be used in combination with the superficial hamula technique, and are characterized by their ability to simultaneously approach dark circles and depressions under the eyes.
In the superficial hamula technique, the orbital fat under the eyes is moved to the depressed area, and the entire cheek is lifted with a midface lift to create a unified look from the eyes to the midface. This approach is suitable for those who are concerned about midface drooping and dark circles at the same time.
Dual plane mid face lift
The dual-plane midface lift is a technique that is approached through temple or intrafacial incisions to detach the cheek fat in two layers (dual plane), supraperiosteal and subcutaneous, and lift the fat body itself in a three-dimensional manner. The mid-face is lifted not only on the skin surface but also in conjunction with deeper structures, resulting in a natural three-dimensional and stable lifting effect.
This technique can be considered a development of the ponytail lift that is currently widely performed in Japan, and the midface elevation in the deep plane facelift that has become mainstream in recent years is also based on this concept. In many cases, the lower eyelid incision is not required, and it is often chosen by those who want a firm lift of the midface while taking scarring and downtime into consideration.

Recommended Features
RECOMMENDED POINTSMidface shortening is an essential key point for a youthful appearance.
The midface refers to the area from below the eyes to the cheeks, a region rich in fat and containing numerous muscles and nerves that lift the cheeks and mouth. The midface is a concentrated area for signs of aging and tends to lengthen with age. Concerns like feeling your face has grown larger or that there's more empty space may stem from the midface. As shadows and unevenness become more noticeable with aging, it can make you look older or give a tired impression.
A major cause of midface sagging is the descent of the cheek fat pad (Meyer's fat) located in the upper cheek area. As this fat descends with age, combined with the reduction of orbital fat in the upper cheek, it leads to various concerns: hollowed-out areas and shadows under the eyes or along the nasolabial folds, and sagging cheeks. The midface lift directly addresses the cheek fat to lift sagging throughout the entire midface. This treatment shortens the midface and leads to a more youthful appearance.
Achieving Natural Rejuvenation with the Hamra Method Combined with a Midface Lift
Bianca Clinic's midface lift features a dual approach combining the Hamra method to lift the entire area from the eyes to the cheeks. As people age, concerns about dark circles tend to increase, but the cause of prominent dark circles is sagging and hollows that appear around the eyes.
Combining a midface lift with the open Hamra technique simultaneously addresses puffiness and hollows around the eyes, restoring overall facial balance. The midface lift is one of the new options for treating dark circles. It tackles dark circle concerns at their root, aiming for natural rejuvenation that considers overall harmony.

Frequently Asked Questions About Midface Lifts
Q&AIs a midface lift a procedure that leaves noticeable scars?
The incision is placed in an inconspicuous location such as the crease of the lower eyelid, temple, or within the hairline. In most cases, the scars will blend in and become less noticeable over time.
How long is the downtime for a midface lift?
Although it varies from person to person, swelling and internal bleeding often settle down in about two weeks, and the estimated time until the effect on daily life is almost negligible is about one month. It takes about 2 to 3 months after surgery for the swelling to completely subside and the result to stabilize.
Because the midface lift involves a larger surgical area than dark circles removal surgery, downtime tends to be slightly longer, but swelling and internal bleeding often occur within an area that can be hidden by a mask.
In addition, downtime varies depending on the surgical technique, and techniques that approach deeper layers, such as subperiosteal and dual plane, may require some time for the swelling to subside.
Are there any precautions to take during the downtime after a mid-face lift?
Washing your face and applying makeup (excluding eye makeup) is possible starting the day after surgery. Please refrain from applying eye makeup or wearing contact lenses for one week after surgery.
How long do the effects of a mid-face lift last?
Because the midface lift is not a procedure that is absorbed over time like hyaluronic acid injections, the effects are more likely to be long-lasting. Among the techniques, those that approach deeper layers, such as subperiosteal and dual plane, tend to be more durable than supraperiosteal.
After a midface lift procedure, won't my facial expressions look unnatural?
The risk of unnatural facial expressions due to a mid-face lift is considered low. While a slight pulling sensation may occur for a short time after surgery, it will gradually diminish. However, if you have previously undergone a facelift, there is a possibility that a mid-face lift could cause discomfort in facial expressions. Please discuss this with your doctor during your consultation.
Can a mid-face lift also be expected to improve the nasolabial folds?
A midface lift is a treatment that can be effective for improving nasolabial folds. However, results vary depending on individual factors such as ligament strength and skin firmness. Please consult your doctor for details.
Please explain the difference between a mid-face lift and a full face lift.
The midface lift is a surgical procedure to lift the midface from under the eyes to the cheeks, and to adjust dark circles, gorgolines, etc. The midface lift is a surgical procedure to lift the midface from under the eyes to the cheeks. A facelift, on the other hand, approaches sagging of the face line, mouth, and lower face. In both cases, the incisions are less visible, and the purpose and the area to be approached are different.
What other non-surgical lift treatments are available?
In addition to surgical facelifts involving incisions, non-surgical lifting procedures using devices include thread lifts, Voluma, and HIFU. We will recommend the most suitable sagging treatment based on your concerns, so please consult with us during your counseling session.
