Lower brow lift (lower brow incision)

BROW LIFT

Remove under-eye bags for a natural, youthful eye area appearance

  • Achieve a youthful eye area without significantly altering the impression of the eyelids
  • By making an incision along the lower edge of the eyebrow, the scar is camouflaged.
  • The sagging in the excised area is unlikely to recur, offering long-term results.
Unique Initiatives at BIANCA CLINIC

Assess the condition and structure of the eye area to propose the appropriate amount of excision and design.

To achieve a natural and beautiful result with a brow lift (brow lift incision), it is crucial to accurately assess the condition and structure of the eye area and determine the appropriate amount of skin to remove. If the amount of skin removed or the design is inappropriate, skin may wrinkle and pull during suturing, or the scar may become noticeable. Additionally, one common complication in brow lift surgery—dog ears, where excess skin forms lumpy bulges after suturing—can also stem from the surgeon's skill level or inadequate planning.

At Bianca Clinic, to prevent such postoperative complications, procedures are performed by experienced surgeons with deep anatomical knowledge and extensive case experience. During the preliminary consultation, we meticulously examine the structure of the eye area, bone structure, skin thickness, and eyebrow flow. Based on this assessment, we propose a customized design and the appropriate amount of tissue removal for each individual patient. Additionally, for patients with thick eyelids themselves, not just skin laxity, we can combine the procedure with ROOF excision, which removes subcutaneous fat deposits around the lower brow area. We identify the cause of eyelid thickness to determine the appropriate treatment. Please feel free to schedule a complimentary consultation.

CHARACTERISTICS

Brow Lift (Brow Lift Surgery)

A brow lift (brow incision) is a cosmetic surgical procedure that removes and lifts excess sagging skin beneath the eyebrows. It is often called a brow lift or brow incision, though some clinics refer to it as a brow incision.

The delicate skin around the eyes is known as an area prone to showing signs of aging, and among these areas, the eyelids are particularly susceptible to sagging with age. Many people struggle with concerns such as "my double eyelids have become hidden," "the width of my double eyelids has narrowed," or "sagging eyelids make it difficult to open my eyes fully." The brow lift procedure addresses these specific concerns. By removing excess, sagging skin, it refreshes the eye area and heavy eyelids caused by aging, leading to a more youthful appearance. A major feature of the brow lift is that it targets the area just below the eyebrows without altering the eyelid itself, resulting in a natural-looking outcome.

Brow Lift + ROOF Resection

ROOF (Rhinophoral Ocular Fat) refers to the fatty tissue located behind the orbicularis oculi muscle, also known as retroorbital fat. ROOF excision is a procedure that removes this fat to reduce the thickness and puffiness of the upper eyelid, creating a more refined and refreshed appearance.

ROOF resection, especially when combined with brow lift surgery, is suitable for individuals with the following characteristics:

Those with thick, heavy-looking upper eyelids

Individuals whose double eyelid width or line has become narrower due to aging

For those whose eyelids appear puffy due to both skin laxity and fat

In such cases, an approach from beneath the eyebrows can lift the skin while removing the ROOF, resulting in a clean, refined appearance across the entire eyelid.

Natural finish and minimal downtime are its appeal

A brow lift (brow incision) is a procedure that involves making an incision and suturing the skin along the lower edge of the eyebrow. Since the incision is made along the naturally shaded hairline of the eyebrow, the resulting scar tends to blend in naturally after surgery.

Hair may grow over the scar, and over time it tends to blend more with the surrounding skin. This is especially true for those with naturally thick eyebrows or a distinct hair flow pattern, making the scar less noticeable.

Since it does not involve deep tissues such as the levator muscle or fat layers, the impact on blood vessels and nerves is relatively minimal, and swelling and puffiness tend to be mild. Furthermore, the brow lift incision targets not the eyelid itself, but the excess skin located beneath the eyebrows. Since the skin under the brows is among the thickest in the eye area, postoperative swelling and puffiness often subside relatively quickly. While downtime varies by individual, swelling typically resolves within 1 to 2 weeks, and any bruising usually fades around 10 days. This makes it a procedure allowing for a relatively swift return to daily activities.

Benefits

MERIT

Anesthesia is used to minimize discomfort during the procedure.

Since treatment is generally performed under anesthesia, there is virtually no pain during the procedure. Bianca Clinic uses local anesthesia. We can also discuss nitrous oxide anesthesia, relaxation anesthesia, or intravenous anesthesia upon request.

Short surgery time, allowing for same-day discharge

Individual results may vary, but the estimated surgery time is approximately 60 minutes. If there are no issues with your post-operative condition, you may return home the same day.

Makeup may be applied starting the day after suture removal one week post-surgery.

After suture removal one week post-surgery, makeup application is possible starting the following day. Concealer and eyeshadow can be used to camouflage post-operative redness, swelling, and scars.

RECOMMENDED POINTS

The Difference Between Brow Lift (Brow Lift Incision) and Ptosis Surgery

Brow Lift (Brow Lift Surgery) and Ptosis Surgery are both procedures aimed at improving eyelid drooping, but they differ in their objectives and suitable indications. Brow Lift Surgery is the preferred procedure when skin laxity or excess skin is the primary cause. It is chosen by those seeking a natural, youthful eye appearance or wishing to restore a defined double eyelid crease that has become blurred due to aging.

On the other hand, ptosis surgery targets the muscles that open the eyelids and may be considered to address functional concerns such as difficulty opening the eyes or a narrowed field of vision. This procedure is often deemed appropriate following a physician's examination, particularly when the strength to open the eyelids has weakened.

At Bianca Clinic, we offer solutions for individuals concerned about ptosis, including the "ptosis correction surgery" method, which supports eye opening by shortening the muscle (levator palpebrae superioris) that opens the eye through a skin incision, and the "ptosis MT method," which uses ultra-fine medical sutures to suture and shorten the muscle on the inner side of the eyelid. If you experience difficulty opening your eyes or feel your field of vision is narrow, you may have ptosis. We recommend considering a consultation with a physician.

Compatibility Between Brow Lift (Brow Lift Surgery) and Permanent Makeup

Brow Lift (Brow Incision) is a procedure that can also be performed on individuals with permanent makeup applied to their brows. However, incisions made along the permanent makeup line may cause the natural brow line to shift, or the position of the permanent makeup may change, potentially causing the outer brow corners to droop. Therefore, incisions are sometimes made slightly above the permanent makeup line. In such cases, it is important to note that some of the permanent makeup pigment may be removed, potentially affecting the design.

For these reasons, if you are considering eyebrow artistry, we recommend first considering a brow lift procedure. After removing excess skin and sagging around the eyes, the position and shape of the eyebrows can be adjusted while considering the overall facial balance, allowing for a design that brings you closer to your ideal eyebrows. Please note that if you plan to undergo permanent makeup after a brow lift, you must wait at least 6 months post-surgery to allow the incision site to fully heal. For details regarding timing and design, please consult with your physician.

Individuals for whom a brow lift (brow lift incision) procedure is not suitable

Brow Lift (Brow Lift Surgery) is not suitable for everyone. For example, individuals who naturally have a narrow space between their eyes and eyebrows may experience a change in facial appearance or an unnatural result if the distance between the eyes and eyebrows becomes even shorter. Furthermore, a brow lift incision primarily addresses skin laxity and is not a procedure designed to significantly alter the natural shape of the eyes. If the heaviness of the eyes is caused by weakness in the muscles that open the eyelids (ptosis) rather than skin laxity, treatment for ptosis is necessary. Additionally, for individuals who already have a wide double eyelid crease, a brow lift incision may further emphasize this width. Therefore, a thorough pre-operative consultation to determine suitability is crucial.

At Bianca Clinic, we offer tailored treatments including brow lift surgery based on your eye area condition and preferences. We conduct detailed simulations to ensure we share your vision for the final result before finalizing the design. If you have concerns about your eye area, please entrust them to us at Bianca Clinic.

Frequently Asked Questions About Brow Lift (Brow Lift Surgery)

Q&A

When is the suture removal performed after a brow lift (brow lift incision)?

Sutures will be removed approximately one week after surgery.

How long will the swelling and redness last after surgery?

After surgery, swelling and bruising may appear around the treated area. Significant swelling typically lasts for about 1 to 2 weeks post-surgery. Bruising generally subsides within approximately 10 days. In most cases, these symptoms will gradually improve over time. If symptoms persist, please contact our clinic so we can examine you.

When can I start wearing makeup?

You may apply makeup starting the day after your stitches are removed.

When can I start wearing contact lenses after surgery?

You may begin using it on the day of your surgery.

When can I start showering or bathing?

On the day of your procedure, you may shower from the neck down. For facial cleansing, gently wipe with a cotton pad. Starting the next day, you may shower your entire body, including your face. You may resume your normal facial cleansing routine. Bathing is permitted starting on the third day after surgery (counting the surgery day as day 0).

Will undergoing a brow lift (brow incision) change the width of my double eyelids?

A brow lift is a procedure aimed at removing sagging skin from the upper eyelid and is fundamentally not a procedure designed to alter the double eyelid crease itself. However, for individuals with deep-set double eyelids and a narrow crease, a brow lift incision may sometimes make the crease appear wider. Additionally, for those whose skin has sagged with age, covering the natural double eyelid line, the lifting effect of removing skin below the brow can sometimes reveal the original crease.

Can a brow lift (brow incision) change single eyelids to double eyelids?

Eyebrow Lift (Subbrow Incision) alone generally does not produce a change from single eyelids to double eyelids. If you desire double eyelids, please consider combining this procedure with double eyelid surgery (such as the suture method or incision method).

Is there a chance of regression after receiving treatment?

Since excess skin is removed, the skin that has been taken out will generally not return. However, due to the effects of aging, the skin on the eyelid that was not removed may sag, potentially causing new skin laxity.

Are there any recommended procedures that can be combined with a brow lift (brow lift incision)?

Combining treatments such as edema-reducing IV drips, PRP injections into scars, and Botox injections can help minimize downtime and support a more natural-looking result. Please note that if you wish to have these procedures performed on the same day, it will be determined by the physician's judgment, so please consult directly.
