What Is Forma V? How RF Works to Warm the Vagina and Vulva, and the Expected Benefits

宮本 亜希子
Supervising Physician
Board-certified cosmetic gynecologist/ Board-certified obstetrician-gynecologist, Japan Medical Specialty Organization Akiko Miyamoto

After engaging in general obstetrics and gynecology practice, including infertility treatment, perinatal care, and other insured treatments, I decided to shift my career to free practice and gynecological aesthetics, with the hope of “supporting women to enjoy their life as a woman” after my own experience fighting against illness. Today, while still being involved in insured medical care as an obstetrician/gynecologist, I am facing women's health issues based on medical evidence through "real femtec" such as gynecologic plastic surgery, Vaginal Growth® injections, and vaginal hyaluronic acid injections, based on my deep anatomical knowledge and skills. We are a leading provider of gynecological services in Japan.
She is also committed to social activities related to the dissemination of sex education, HPV vaccine awareness, and the improvement of women's quality of life. He is also actively involved in educating the public about medical knowledge, such as writing Chapter 7, "Vaginal Hyaluronic Acid Injection," in his specialty book, "The Basics of Cosmetic Surgery," which is the first book he reads when he becomes a cosmetic surgeon.

Forma V is a treatment that uses radiofrequency (RF) to heat the vaginal area and vulva without the use of needles. It applies thermal stimulation to the tissue while carefully controlling the temperature, with the goal of improving firmness and tightening.

Vaginal looseness and dryness in the intimate area—common concerns that arise with childbirth and aging. Even if you feel that “things are a little different than they used to be,” it can be hard to know how to take care of yourself, right?

"Forma V" is a non-invasive fem treatment designed to address such concerns. It is a device that uses RF (radiofrequency) heat to target tissue in the vagina and vulva.

In this article, we’ll provide a detailed explanation of the Forma V device available at BIANCA CLINIC, including how it warms the tissues, its temperature control features, and the changes you can expect.

What kind of treatment is Forma V?

FormaV is a treatment that uses RF thermal energy to target tissues inside the vagina and in the vulva.

Rather than removing tissue or inserting needles, this treatment uses heat to promote collagen restructuring, aiming to improve firmness, elasticity, and skin tightening.

Vaginal handpiece used with Empower RF

Forma V is one of the handpieces available for InMode’s multi-functional medical device, “EmpowerRF.”

Empower RF is designed to allow users to switch handpieces depending on their specific needs. The specific concerns that can be addressed vary depending on which handpiece is selected.

In addition to Forma V, Bianca Clinic also offers Mofius 8V, which uses microneedle RF, and V-Tone, which stimulates the pelvic floor muscles using EMS.

A key feature of Forma V is its ability to heat tissue in the intimate area without using needles. It uses RF to warm the tissue, aiming to improve firmness and elasticity.

For an overview of how Empower RF works, see the related article “What is Empower RF?" explains this in detail.

Allows access to both the interior of the vagina and the vulva

Forma V is a device that allows treatment of both the interior of the vagina and the vulva using a single handpiece.

A specialized handpiece is inserted into the vagina, and RF (radiofrequency) energy is applied to the surface of the skin in the vulva.

At Bianca Clinic, we offer not only treatments that focus solely on the vagina or the vulva, but also treatments that combine both the vagina and the vulva.

How does Forma V work to tighten the vagina?

Forma V uses RF (radiofrequency) to warm the intimate area, promoting collagen contraction and restructuring to achieve skin tightening.

So, why does heating cause changes in the tissue? The key lies in the effects of RF-generated heat and the mechanism for controlling the temperature.

Promotes tissue contraction and remodeling through RF-generated heat

RF is a technology that generates heat within tissue using high-frequency electrical current. With Forma V, RF energy is applied via specialized electrodes to warm the tissue of the vaginal wall and vulva.

It is believed that when an appropriate thermal stimulus is applied to tissue, a collagen contraction reaction occurs, which in turn promotes the reconstruction of collagen and other components during the subsequent repair process.

This change in the tissue is called “remodeling.” It’s a term many of you have probably heard in the context of skin treatments.

In other words, Forma V is not a procedure that physically contracts and tightens the vaginal walls. Instead, it is based on the concept of achieving firmness and tightening through changes in the tissue itself.

Adjust the RF output while measuring the temperature

One of the key features of the Forma V as a device is its ability to heat while controlling the temperature.

The handpiece is equipped with a temperature-measuring function that automatically adjusts the RF output to maintain the set temperature.

This mechanism is designed to heat tissue to a specific temperature, rather than simply applying intense heat.

In tissue remodeling using RF, it is not only the temperature that matters, but also which areas are heated and for how long.

However, just because the device has a temperature control function does not mean that risks such as burns are eliminated. It is necessary to adjust the irradiation level according to the condition of the tissue.

What kind of results can I expect from Forma V?

Forma V is a treatment that applies RF thermal stimulation to the tissues of the vagina and vulva, aiming to improve firmness, elasticity, and tightening.

It is considered for conditions such as vaginal laxity, dryness, and discomfort during intercourse; however, the expected results vary depending on the cause of the symptoms.

Approaches to Vaginal Looseness and Loss of Firmness

Have you noticed that your vaginal tone feels different than it used to, perhaps after giving birth or as you’ve gotten older?

Forma V is a type of femtech. It applies thermal stimulation to the vaginal wall tissue to promote collagen remodeling, with the goal of improving tightness and elasticity.

Vaginal laxity may also be related to weakened pelvic floor muscles or changes in the supporting tissues.

Since Forma V is not a treatment that directly strengthens the pelvic floor muscles, if muscle function is the primary cause, we will consider other approaches, such as pelvic floor muscle exercises.

Approaches to Vaginal Dryness and Lack of Moisture

Vaginal dryness is also related to changes in the condition of the mucous membranes caused by factors such as changes in female hormones.

Forma V aims to improve the condition of the vaginal mucosa and enhance moisture levels through RF-induced tissue remodeling.

However, it does not directly replenish moisture like a moisturizer, nor is it a treatment that addresses the decline in female hormones itself.

If you experience discomfort during intercourse due to dryness, it is important to assess the condition of your mucous membranes and consider treatment options, including moisturizing care and medication.

Approaches to Improving Tightness and Elasticity in the Vulva

Changes in the intimate area aren’t limited to the inside of the vagina. The skin of the vulva is also affected by aging, hormonal changes, and friction.

Forma V can deliver RF energy to the vulva as well, with the goal of improving skin firmness and elasticity.

However, the purpose of this procedure is to tighten the skin through thermal stimulation; it is not intended to directly restore volume to the labia majora. The appropriate treatment varies depending on the specific changes you are concerned about, such as sagging skin or loss of volume.

Have the effects of Forma V been confirmed by research?

Clinical studies using the Forma V handpiece have reported changes in indicators related to a sensation of vaginal laxity and the morphology of the vaginal opening.

In a study published in 2026, 34 premenopausal women who reported feeling vaginal laxity underwent four RF treatments with Forma V [1].

Among the 32 participants who completed the 6-month follow-up evaluation, the median 7-point score for vaginal tightness changed from 2 before the procedure to 4. The area of the vaginal opening, as measured by ultrasound, also decreased from an average of 21.4 cm² to 18.3 cm².

In other words, after the Forma V treatment, not only did patients report an increased sense of vaginal tightness, but actual changes were also observed around the vaginal opening. Furthermore, six months later, 87.5% of patients reported feeling an overall improvement.

However, there was no comparison with individuals who did not receive the treatment, and the study was limited to premenopausal women who had given birth. Please understand that these results may not apply to all age groups or symptoms.

What are the pros and cons of Forma V?

One of the benefits of Forma V is that it aims to tighten the vagina and vulva without the use of needles or large incisions. On the other hand, there is a possibility of side effects caused by thermal stimulation, and multiple treatment sessions may be required.

Benefits | Aims to tighten the vagina and vulva without using needles

Unlike surgeries that involve excising and suturing the vaginal wall, Forma V is a procedure that uses RF heat to induce tissue changes.

Since it does not involve the use of needles, this method is a good option for those who are hesitant about treatments that involve needle insertion.

Another key feature is its ability to deliver treatment to both the interior of the vagina and the vulva. This allows you to target firmness and tightening in different areas using the same device.

Disadvantages | Risks associated with thermal stimulation and the need for ongoing medical visits

Although Forma V does not use needles, it applies heat to the tissue, so temporary redness, swelling, or a stinging sensation may occur.

At Bianca Clinic, we use anesthetic cream to ensure your treatment is performed with minimal pain or discomfort.

We also recommend undergoing multiple treatment sessions, aiming for about 3 to 4 sessions every 4 weeks. It is important to create a manageable schedule that takes into account the burden of visiting the clinic.

Q. Is Forma V the same as vaginal laser treatment?

A. No. Forma V is a treatment that uses RF (radiofrequency), not a laser.

Although both are technologies that apply heat to tissue, they differ in the nature of the energy and how heat is transferred. Forma V is characterized by its ability to heat tissue using RF while controlling the temperature.

Q. Can I feel the effects of Forma V even after just one treatment?

A. While some people feel their vagina tighten after just one treatment, the results vary from person to person.

After thermal stimulation with RF, collagen remodeling gradually progresses, so you will notice changes over time.

Q. Is Forma V effective against hot water leaks?

A. If vaginal laxity is contributing to urine leakage, tightening with Forma V may help improve the condition.

However, since vaginal leakage is also influenced by factors such as the shape of the vagina and the condition of the pelvic floor muscles, the appropriate treatment varies depending on the cause.

Q. Can it also help relieve itching and odor in the intimate area?

A. Forma V is not a treatment that addresses itching or odor directly.

In addition to dryness, symptoms can also be caused by skin irritation or infections. If you experience a stinging sensation or notice an unusual odor, it is especially important to see a gynecologist first.

Q. Can I undergo the Forma V treatment while on my period or during pregnancy?

A. At Bianca Clinic, we do not perform treatments on patients who are menstruating or pregnant.

In addition, we may not be able to perform the procedure on patients who use an intrauterine device (IUD), among others. To ensure your safety during the procedure, please inform your doctor in advance.
