What characteristics does the term “round nose” refer to? First, we’ll explain the characteristics of a nose referred to as a “round nose” and the main reasons why it tends to look round.

What is a "dumpling nose"?

The term “round nose” generally refers to a nose with a rounded tip and nostrils that appear wide. This feature is often accompanied by a lack of definition along the bridge of the nose and is relatively common among Asians, including Japanese people. The roundness of the tip can be influenced by factors such as the spread of the “greater alar cartilage,” which shapes the tip, and the thickness of the skin and subcutaneous tissue covering it.

Main Causes of a "Bulbous Nose"

The factors that determine the shape of a bulbous nose can be broadly categorized into two: “the shape of the cartilage” and “the thickness of the tissue covering the cartilage.” These are influenced not only by one’s innate physical characteristics but also by daily lifestyle habits and changes associated with aging.
