How many days is the downtime for Sculptra?
Bleeding, swelling, and redness following Sculptra treatment usually subside within a week.
Symptoms and their duration vary from person to person, and a lump may appear several weeks later.
Bleeding, swelling, and redness following Sculptra injections will subside within one week.
In addition, areas that appeared plump immediately after the procedure due to fluid retention or swelling generally subside within about 1 to 2 weeks.
However, it’s important to remember that the extent of downtime varies from person to person.
Since the recovery process varies depending on the treatment area and the amount injected, we cannot say for certain that "it will definitely return to normal by a specific day."

Common Symptoms and the Recovery Process During Sculptra Treatment
In addition to bleeding, swelling, and redness, inflammation, tenderness, and lumps may rarely occur.
Lumps may appear not only immediately after treatment but also 2 to 6 weeks later.
Symptoms That May Occur Immediately After Treatment
Due to the injection treatment, bleeding, swelling, or redness may occur at the treatment site.
The plump appearance immediately after the injection may be due to swelling, so the final result is not necessarily complete at that point.
As the swelling subsides, your vision will also change.

The "5-5-5 Rule" is the basic guideline for post-treatment massage
The "5-5-5 Rule" is a method of gently massaging in a circular motion five times a day for five minutes each, for five days.
At Sculptra, the post-treatment massage is also an important part of the care process.

Gently massage the injection site in a circular motion. As a general guideline, do this 5 times a day for 5 minutes each time, for 5 days.
Massaging is performed to promote the uniform distribution of the injected PLLA particles.
There's no need to apply excessive force or massage too vigorously. Just follow the instructions regarding the areas to cover and how to move your hands.

Sculptra Side Effects and Risks | Under-Eye Issues and Blindness
With Sculptra, in addition to side effects such as lumps, it is important to be aware of the risk of vascular occlusion associated with the injection treatment.
If you experience sudden vision problems or severe eye pain, please contact a medical facility immediately.
Can Sculptra cause blindness?
In facial injection treatments, if the medication accidentally enters a blood vessel, it can cause a blood vessel blockage, which may affect vision.
Regarding PLLA, which is used in Sculptra, cases of retinal artery occlusion and visual impairment have been reported overseas. [1]
According to a 2025 report by the American Academy of Ophthalmology, out of 198 cases of vision loss following filler injections that were compiled, only one case was reported to be related to PLLA. [2]
However, these are the number of reported cases, not the incidence rate calculated using the number of people who received the procedure as the denominator.
Therefore, it is not possible to estimate the incidence of blindness in terms of "one in X people."
If you experience any changes after your treatment—such as sudden blurred vision, abnormal vision, severe eye pain, or sudden paleness of the skin—do not wait to see how things develop; seek medical attention immediately.
