Who Is Boey® Right For? An Explanation for Those Considering Short-Term Solutions

My journey into aesthetic medicine stems from a desire to help enrich and beautify lives beyond simply treating illness. My specialties include hyaluronic acid, Botox, and thread lifts. I provide treatments that enhance each individual's unique qualities and bring out an elegant, natural beauty. For concerns around the eyes that are difficult to improve with dermatology alone, I also perform surgical procedures. By integrating dermatology and surgery, I holistically balance the entire face. With three periods of overseas study, I am also able to provide consultations in English.

Boey® is one of the formulations used for botulinum toxin injections, commonly referred to as “Botox injections.” Because its effects appear relatively quickly and last only about 2 to 3 weeks, it may be a good option for people who are concerned about long-term effects or who want to try it for a short period of time.

"I'm interested in Botox injections, but I'm a little hesitant about the effects lasting for several months."

Some people considering Botox injections for the first time may feel this way.

Boey® is a formulation containing botulinum toxin type E. Unlike conventional type A formulations, it is characterized by a relatively rapid onset of action and a short duration of effect.

At BIANCA CLINIC, we believe that when choosing a botulinum toxin product, factors such as “how long you want the effects to last” and “whether you have had botulinum toxin injections before” are also important.

In this article, we’ll explain who Boey® is best suited for, including the pros and cons of its short duration.

If you would like to learn more about the characteristics and effects of Boey® itself,"What Is Boey®? A Doctor Explains the Characteristics of Type E Botulinum Toxin Products"Please see the following as well.

Who is Boey® best suited for?

Boey® may be a good option for people who are concerned about the long-lasting effects or who want to try botulinum toxin injections for a short period of time.

  • For First-Time Patients Receiving Botulinum Toxin Injections
  • For those who are concerned that the effects may last for several months
  • For those who want to start by trying out changes that take effect quickly
  • For those who want to choose a formulation based on its short duration of action

In Phase III clinical trials conducted in the United States and Canada, the efficacy and safety of Boey® were evaluated in adults who had never previously received botulinum toxin injections.

It has been reported that improvements in glabellar wrinkles were observed starting 8 hours after administration, peaked on day 7, and returned to a moderate or severe state by day 21. [1]

Benefits of Boey® | Effects are felt relatively quickly

In overseas clinical trials, the effects of Boey® have been confirmed as early as 8 hours after administration. [1]

However, this does not mean that you will definitely feel the effects within 8 hours. The timing at which you actually notice a change varies from person to person.

Even so, the relatively short time it takes for the effects to appear is one of the unique features of Boey®.

Benefits of Boey® | Short duration of approximately 2 to 3 weeks

According to Allergan Aesthetics (a subsidiary of AbbVie), the developer of Boey®, the effects of Boey® typically appear as early as 8 hours after treatment and generally subside after about 2 to 3 weeks. [2]

For those who wish for the effects to last for several months, the short duration of action may be seen as a drawback.

On the other hand, for those who feel, “Since this is my first time, I’m worried about a long-lasting effect” or “I’d like to start by trying a short-term change,” the shorter duration of action may be a factor in choosing a particular formulation.

At Bianca Clinic, we don’t take a one-size-fits-all approach—such as assuming that “the longer it lasts, the better” or “the shorter the duration, the easier it is to try”—but rather, we believe it’s important to confirm how long each patient wants the effects to last.

If you would like to learn more about the differences between Boey® and conventional Type A botulinum toxin products,"What's the Difference Between Boey® and Botox? A Comparison of Onset of Effect, Duration of Effect, and Characteristics of Type E Botulinum Toxin"Please take a look at this as well.

Who might Boey® not be right for?

For those who want to maintain the effects for as long as possible or reduce the frequency of treatments, Boey®’s short duration of effect may not meet their needs.

Boey® is a formulation characterized by its short duration of action.

Therefore, for those who want the results of a single treatment to last for several months or who wish to minimize the frequency of treatments as much as possible, this treatment may not meet their needs.

Furthermore, it is not necessarily the case that “short-lived = excellent” or “long-lasting = excellent.”

When choosing a botulinum toxin product, you need to consider not only the duration of the effects but also the provider’s experience, how natural the facial expressions will remain, and your desired treatment frequency.

At Bianca Clinic, we place great importance on developing treatment plans not based solely on the product name, but by carefully assessing facial muscle movement and the desired results.

Boey® is not approved in Japan; an application for approval is pending.

As of September 2026, Boey® has not been approved in Japan; however, an application for manufacturing and marketing approval for trenibotulinumtoxin E has been submitted in Japan.

On November 25, 2025, Allergan Aesthetics filed an application for domestic approval for the manufacture and sale of Trenibotulinum Toxin E, a type E botulinum toxin, for the treatment of expression lines between the eyebrows in adults. [3]

Meanwhile, in Europe, it was approved in July 2026 for the temporary improvement of moderate to severe glabellar lines. [4]

It is important to distinguish between what is approved overseas and what is approved within Japan.

Q. What is the generic name for Boey®?

A. The generic name for Boey® is “trenibotulinumtoxinE.” It is a drug formulation containing botulinum toxin type E as its active ingredient.

Q. Is Boey® suitable for first-time botulinum toxin injections?

A. It may be an option for first-time users. Boey®’s Phase III clinical trial is being conducted in adults who have never previously received botulinum toxin injections. [1]

However, just because it’s your first time doesn’t mean Boey® is necessarily the right choice for everyone. You’ll need to consider factors such as the desired duration and the final look.

Q. Since Boey® has a short duration of action, is it also safer?

A. We cannot conclude that something is “safer” solely on the basis of its short duration.

Like other botulinum toxin products, Boey® also has side effects and precautions.

When choosing a medication, it is important to check not only its duration of action but also information regarding its safety.

Q. Can Boey® be considered equivalent to Type A botulinum toxin products in terms of units?

A. No. The “units (U)” of botulinum toxin products cannot be simply converted as if they were the same across different products.

Boey® is a type E botulinum toxin product; since it belongs to a different serotype than type A products, the required dosage must be determined based on the specific product information.

Q. Is Boey® approved in Japan?

A. As of September 2026, it has not been approved in Japan.

Meanwhile, on November 25, 2025, an application was submitted for domestic marketing approval of Treni Botulinum Toxin E for the treatment of expression lines between the eyebrows in adults.

When considering Boey®, think about whether its “short duration of action” is right for you.

Boey® is a type E botulinum toxin product characterized by a relatively rapid onset of action and a short duration of action of approximately 2 to 3 weeks.

Boey® may be an option for people who are concerned about the long-lasting effects or who would like to try botulinum toxin injections for a short period of time.

On the other hand, for those who want the effects to last as long as possible or who wish to reduce the frequency of treatments, a short duration of effect may not meet their needs.

It's important to consider not only whether a medication "lasts a long time" or "works quickly," but also how long you want its effects to last.

At BIANCA CLINIC, we develop a treatment plan by assessing each individual’s facial expressions and muscle movements, previous treatment history, and desired results and duration.

If you have any questions about how to choose a botulinum toxin product, please feel free to discuss them during your consultation.
