"I've heard that EasyGel has minimal downtime, but how much swelling can I actually expect?" "If I get injections under my eyes, how many days should I set aside?"
Although PRF (ezGEL) is a non-surgical injection procedure, since it involves the use of needles or cannulas, swelling and bruising cannot be completely ruled out.
In this article, Dr. Yukitaro Ikeda of BIANCA CLINIC explains the downtime associated with PRF (ezGEL).
How long is the downtime for PRF (ezGEL)?
As with most injection treatments, PRF (ezGEL) may cause swelling, bruising, redness, and pain for a few days.
Since recovery times vary from person to person, we cannot make a blanket statement such as “It will definitely be cured in X days.”
During the consultation, we’ll discuss the treatment date while taking into account not only the treatment area and the volume of filler to be injected, but also your upcoming important events.
That said, you’re probably wondering, “How long will this take?”
Studies on PRF injections into the face have reported that most cases of swelling and bruising were temporary.
A report summarizing 14 studies on PRP and PRF treatments around the eyes conducted in 2025 found that the main adverse events were swelling, redness, and bruising, all of which were transient. [1]
In a 2025 report on 25 cases involving injections of ezPRF and ezGEL into nasolabial folds, the main side effects were mild swelling and bruising, and no serious adverse events were reported. [2]
Rather than thinking of PRF as having short or long downtime, it’s best to view it as a treatment that, just like other injectable treatments, can cause side effects associated with the injection.

Common Side Effects Associated with PRF (ezGEL) That May Require Downtime
In addition to symptoms such as swelling, bruising, and redness, you may experience pain from the injection during the procedure.
When you think about “injecting your own blood,” you might wonder, “Doesn’t that mean there’s no downtime?”
Even if the product contains your own blood, there is a risk of experiencing the following symptoms because a needle is inserted into the skin.
Swelling and Edema
After the injection, the area may appear temporarily swollen due to stimulation from the needle or the volume of the injected solution itself.
During the examination, we check not only whether there is swelling, but also the injection site, any asymmetry between the left and right sides, the presence or absence of pain, and whether the condition has worsened over time.
The area under the eyes, in particular, has naturally thin skin, so even slight puffiness is easily noticeable there.
Even if you notice swelling immediately after the procedure, it may be due to a combination of the volume of the injected PRF (ezGEL) and the swelling itself.
In a clinical trial involving 16 patients who received PRF injections around the eyes, swelling at the injection sites subsided within about one day at the longest. [3]
However, this study focused solely on PRF, and the same results may not necessarily apply to PRF (ezGEL).
Therefore, rather than focusing solely on "how many days it takes to subside," it is important to observe whether the swelling is gradually decreasing over time.
Bruising and Redness
If a needle or cannula comes into contact with a small blood vessel, it may cause bruising or redness.
Even during the consultation, we’ll explain that “there’s a possibility of bruising” before the injection, and if you have important plans, we may ask you to reschedule your appointment.
The area around the eyes, where the skin is particularly thin, is prone to showing even minor bruising.
In studies involving the use of PRF preparations on the face, there have been reports of mild bruising lasting about 1 to 3 days, as well as cases where mild bruising was observed after multiple treatments.
On the other hand, no serious side effects have been reported. [4][5]
However, these studies did not examine PRF (ezGEL) itself.
The study utilized PRF materials with different preparation methods and properties, such as **liquid-form i-PRF and PRF matrix (PRFM), which retains its shape more easily**.
Therefore, the number of days reported in the study cannot be directly applied to the downtime associated with EasyGel.
Even if a bruise appears, if the color is gradually fading, it is generally common to simply monitor the condition.
However, if the pain worsens or you notice color changes that differ from typical bruising, please consult the medical facility where you received treatment as soon as possible.
Pain and Pressure
During the procedure or immediately after the injection, you may feel pain from the needle prick or a sensation of pressure as the solution is injected.
With injection therapy, it is not uncommon to experience some pain or tenderness temporarily.
The important thing here is whether it has become lighter or stronger over time.
If you experience increased pain some time after your treatment, or if you notice a change in skin color, please do not assume it is simply “part of the downtime” and contact us instead.
How should you spend your time during the PRF (ezGEL) recovery period?
Please refrain from applying makeup to the injection site on the day of the procedure, and avoid touching the area to prevent redness or swelling from becoming severe.

Makeup should be applied only to the area where the needle was inserted, starting the next day.
At Bianca Clinic, we state that you can resume your normal daily activities on the day of your treatment; however, we ask that you refrain from applying makeup directly over the areas where the needles were inserted on the day of your treatment.
Also, avoid rubbing the injection site too hard or touching it more than necessary.
Don't judge the final result while the area is still swollen.
PRF (ezGEL) is a procedure that adds volume immediately after injection.
Therefore, not all of the bulges you see immediately afterward represent the "final result."
In addition to the volume created by the injections, there may be some puffiness or swelling.
If you notice any asymmetry or swelling, please do not press hard on the area or massage it yourself; instead, contact the clinic where you received the treatment first.
What if downtime is prolonged? Symptoms to watch for
Although PRF (ezGEL) is a product derived from the patient’s own blood, the fact that it is autologous does not mean that complications will never occur.
Swelling and bruising are common side effects, but if you notice any of the following changes, please contact the medical facility where you received treatment as soon as possible.
- The pain gets worse over time
- The skin color changes significantly, becoming pale or purple, for example
- Redness, warmth, and swelling are getting worse
- Pus discharge, accompanied by a fever
Please note that, unlike hyaluronic acid fillers, EasyGel is not a product that can be dissolved with hyaluronidase.
That is precisely why it is important to carefully consider the injection site and dosage before the procedure.

Frequently Asked Questions About PRF (ezGEL) Downtime
We have compiled a list of questions patients frequently ask about downtime following PRF (ezGEL) treatment.

Q. How many days does the swelling from PRF (ezGEL) usually last?
A. Symptoms vary from person to person, but they generally subside within a few days to about a week.
Q. How long does bruising from PRF (ezGEL) last?
A. If the bruising is minor, it may become less noticeable within a few days.
However, since this varies from person to person, it may last for about a week.
Q. Can I wear makeup on the day of my PRF (ezGEL) treatment?
A. You can resume your normal daily activities on the same day, but please wait until the next day before applying makeup directly over the injection sites.
Q. Is it normal for the area under my eyes to look puffy right after the procedure?
A. Immediately after the injection, the area may appear swollen due to a combination of the volume of the filler and natural swelling.
It's important not to judge the final result based solely on how it looks immediately afterward, but to monitor its progress over time.
However, if you experience severe pain or a change in skin color, please consult a doctor as soon as possible.
Q. Are there any side effects if I use my own blood?
A. Since this is an autologous preparation, we can minimize reactions caused by foreign substances; however, there are risks such as swelling, bruising, and pain associated with the injection, as well as infection and circulatory problems.
At Bianca Clinic, we conduct ongoing training to improve our injection techniques and minimize the likelihood of such reactions.
When planning for PRF (ezGEL), be sure to allow plenty of time for recovery.
After a PRF (ezGEL) procedure, you may experience swelling, redness, bruising, pain, or other symptoms.
Although most symptoms following PRF or ezGEL injections are considered temporary, individual responses may vary.
Since even slight swelling or bruising tends to be particularly noticeable under the eyes, we recommend scheduling your treatment date with your work and upcoming events in mind.
At BIANCA CLINIC, we recommend treatments only after carefully assessing the injection site, the volume to be injected, and the overall balance of the patient’s face.
If you have any concerns about downtime, please discuss them—including your schedule—during your consultation.
