What Is the Downtime for Daxify? An Explanation of Side Effects and Post-Treatment Precautions
My journey into aesthetic medicine stems from a desire to help enrich and beautify lives beyond simply treating illness. My specialties include hyaluronic acid, Botox, and thread lifts. I provide treatments that enhance each individual's unique qualities and bring out an elegant, natural beauty. For concerns around the eyes that are difficult to improve with dermatology alone, I also perform surgical procedures. By integrating dermatology and surgery, I holistically balance the entire face. With three periods of overseas study, I am also able to provide consultations in English.

Some of you may be wondering, “Since Daxify lasts so long, doesn’t that mean the downtime is longer, too?”
Daxify is one of the formulations used for botulinum toxin injections, commonly referred to as “Botox injections.”
While its long duration is a key feature, it’s important to distinguish between its long-lasting effects and the length of downtime.
At BIANCA CLINIC, we believe it is important to undergo treatment only after fully understanding not only the characteristics of the formulation but also the symptoms that may occur after the procedure and how to care for yourself afterward.
In this article, we’ll explain the downtime and side effects of Daxify, as well as important points to keep in mind after the procedure.

How long is the downtime after a Daxify treatment?
Although temporary redness, swelling, pain, and bruising may occur after DaxiFi treatment, patients are often able to resume their normal daily activities.
According to the FDA prescribing information for DAXXIFY®, clinical trials targeting glabellar lines have reported pain, redness, swelling, and bruising at the injection site.
The incidence of injection-site reactions was 6% in both the DAXXIFY® group and the placebo group. [1]
Botulinum toxin injections do not involve any incisions, and the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) states that most people can resume their daily activities immediately after the procedure. [2]
In actual clinical practice, I get the impression that most patients do not need to make significant changes to their daily lives after treatment and simply go about their routines as usual.
However, redness, swelling, or bruising may occur.
With standard botulinum toxin injections, any bruising that occurs may last from a few days to a week.
The severity and progression of symptoms vary from person to person.
What are the side effects of Daxify?
With Daxify, in addition to reactions at the injection site, side effects such as headaches and drooping eyelids may occur.
According to the FDA package insert, the following side effects have been reported following administration to glabellar lines: headache (6%), ptosis (2%), and facial palsy (1%).
[1] These are not side effects specific to DAXXIFY®; they are symptoms that have also been reported with other botulinum toxin products.
In addition, warnings have been issued regarding botulinum toxin products, including DAXXIFY®, stating that in rare cases, the effects of botulinum toxin may extend beyond the injection site and potentially affect swallowing, speech, and breathing. [1]
If you experience symptoms such as difficulty breathing, difficulty swallowing, or difficulty speaking, please seek medical attention immediately.
At Bianca Clinic, with these risks in mind, we place great importance on developing a treatment plan while carefully assessing the treatment area and the movement of facial muscles.
What precautions should I take after a Daxify treatment?
After the procedure, avoid vigorous rubbing or massage of the injection site, and refrain from strenuous exercise immediately following the procedure.
Just because it’s DAXXIFY® doesn’t mean it requires special aftercare; the basic precautions are the same as those for standard botulinum toxin injections.
Do not rub the injection site vigorously
After the procedure, avoid rubbing or massaging the treated area vigorously.

When washing your face or doing your skincare routine, it’s important not to use more harsh products than necessary.
Avoid strenuous exercise immediately after treatment.
Please avoid strenuous exercise after receiving botulinum toxin injections.
This applies not only to exercise but also to activities that cause your heart rate to rise significantly, such as lifting heavy objects.
If you have received specific instructions regarding how to spend the day of your procedure, please follow your doctor’s instructions.
If you have any symptoms that concern you, consult a doctor.
If you notice any concerning changes—such as drooping eyelids or asymmetry in facial expressions, in addition to temporary symptoms like redness, swelling, or bruising—do not try to diagnose the condition yourself; consult a doctor instead.

Are there any differences in precautions between Daxify and regular Botox?
While the basic post-treatment precautions are the same, the dosage and safety information vary by medication.
As far as botulinum toxin injections are concerned, there are no major differences in the basic post-treatment precautions, such as avoiding vigorous rubbing after the injection.
However, the units of DAXXIFY® cannot be simply converted to the units of other botulinum toxin products.
The FDA package insert also explicitly states that the potency units for DAXXIFY® are not interchangeable with those of other botulinum toxin products. [1]

Frequently Asked Questions
In this section, we’ll address common questions about Daxify’s downtime and the post-treatment recovery process.

Q. When can I return to work after a Dakshify treatment?
A. In most cases, you can resume your normal daily activities on the same day as the procedure.
Since botulinum toxin injections do not involve any incisions, it is generally not necessary to take an extended leave from work. [2]
However, if redness, swelling, or bruising occurs, it may affect your appearance.
Q. How long does the swelling and redness last after a Daxify treatment?
A. Swelling and redness at the injection site may occur as temporary symptoms, but the duration varies from person to person.
If bruising occurs, it may last for several days to about a week.
Q. Is there a way to reduce the downtime associated with Daxify?
A. While there is no way to completely eliminate downtime, it is important not to rub or apply pressure to the injection site after the procedure and to follow the precautions provided by your doctor.
Even if you're concerned about redness, swelling, or bruising, avoid massaging the area vigorously on your own.
Q. Can I get a headache after a Daxify treatment?
A. Yes. According to the FDA package insert, headaches have been reported in 6% of patients following treatment for glabellar lines.
[1] However, headaches are a side effect seen not only with DAXXIFY® but also with other botulinum toxin products.
Q. Can Daxify cause an allergic reaction?
A. DAXXIFY® may cause allergic reactions, including itching, rash, redness, swelling, wheezing, difficulty breathing, and dizziness. [3]
If you experience difficulty breathing or severe swelling, please seek medical attention immediately.
The downtime associated with Daxify is not significantly different from that of typical botulinum toxin injections.
Although redness, swelling, and bruising may occur with Daxify, the basic post-treatment precautions are the same as those for standard botulinum toxin injections.
DAXXIFY® is a formulation known for its long-lasting effects, but just because it acts for a long time doesn't mean the downtime is longer.
After the procedure, avoid vigorous rubbing of the injection site, and if you experience any concerning symptoms, consult a doctor rather than trying to diagnose the issue yourself.
At BIANCA CLINIC, we discuss not only the characteristics of the formulation but also potential side effects and post-treatment care before determining a botulinum toxin treatment plan tailored to each individual.
