After engaging in general obstetrics and gynecology practice, including infertility treatment, perinatal care, and other insured treatments, I decided to shift my career to free practice and gynecological aesthetics, with the hope of “supporting women to enjoy their life as a woman” after my own experience fighting against illness. Today, while still being involved in insured medical care as an obstetrician/gynecologist, I am facing women's health issues based on medical evidence through "real femtec" such as gynecologic plastic surgery, Vaginal Growth® injections, and vaginal hyaluronic acid injections, based on my deep anatomical knowledge and skills. We are a leading provider of gynecological services in Japan.
She is also committed to social activities related to the dissemination of sex education, HPV vaccine awareness, and the improvement of women's quality of life. He is also actively involved in educating the public about medical knowledge, such as writing Chapter 7, "Vaginal Hyaluronic Acid Injection," in his specialty book, "The Basics of Cosmetic Surgery," which is the first book he reads when he becomes a cosmetic surgeon.

Mofius 8V is a procedure in which fine needles are inserted into the vaginal wall to deliver RF (radiofrequency) thermal energy deep into the tissue. It promotes tissue contraction and collagen remodeling, with the goal of tightening the vagina and improving its firmness.

Vaginal laxity after childbirth and dryness in the intimate area that often occurs with age.

Even if you're concerned about these changes, it can be hard to talk to someone about them, can't it?

Mofius 8V is a device that applies microneedle RF technology to vaginal treatments.

Unlike conventional RF, which heats from the surface, this method uses fine needles to deliver heat deep into the tissue.

In this article, we’ll provide a detailed explanation—from the perspective of aesthetic gynecology—of the Mofius 8V, which is available at BIANCA CLINIC in Tokyo, covering everything from how the device works and its expected effects to actual research findings.

What kind of treatment is Mofius 8V?

Mofius 8V (Vaginal Mofius) is a procedure that combines microneedles and RF to deliver thermal stimulation to the vaginal wall tissue.

Without making large incisions or removing tissue, this procedure aims to improve the firmness and tightness of the vaginal walls by utilizing thermal contraction and the subsequent collagen remodeling that occurs during the healing process.

One of the Empower RF handpieces is the Mofius 8V.

The Mofius 8V is one of the handpieces used with InMode’s “EmpowerRF.”

Empower RF is a device that can target different tissues by changing the handpiece.

In addition to the Mofius 8V, Bianca Clinic offers the Forma V, which uses radiofrequency to heat the vagina and vulva, and the V-Tone, which delivers electrical stimulation to the pelvic floor muscles.

One of the distinctive features of the Mofius 8V is that it delivers heat into the tissue via its needles.

Because it allows you to adjust where heat is applied on the vaginal wall, it is designed to target not only the surface but also the connective tissue beneath the mucous membrane.

How does the Mofius 8V microneedle RF work?

Mofius 8V combines stimulation from fine needles with RF heating to target the tissue of the vaginal wall.

Key to understanding how this works is the ability to adjust the depth of the needle and the fact that thermal energy spreads around the needle.

Delivers RF energy to a depth of 1 to 3 mm within the vaginal wall using a fine needle

The Mofius 8V is equipped with 24 gold-coated microneedles.

The main equipment specifications are as follows.

Item Mofius 8V Specifications
Treatment Methods Microneedle Fractional RF
Number of needles 24 bottles
Needle Diameter Approximately 300 μm (0.3 mm)
Irradiation Depth Adjustable within a range of 1 to 3 mm
Needle Structure A structure in which part of it is insulated and the tip contains a conductive portion
Tip A dedicated tip for each patient

With the Mofius 8V, the practitioner can adjust the needle depth based on the condition of the vaginal wall.

The important thing to remember here is that the deeper you insert the needle, the more effective it isn't.

It is necessary to determine the depth to which thermal energy should be delivered based on the thickness of the vaginal wall and the condition of the mucosa.

What is the drug delivery system in the Mofius 8V?

At Bianca Clinic, we also offer “drug delivery,” which involves applying medication after a Mofius 8V treatment.

This method aims to promote the penetration of medication by utilizing the microscopic pathways formed in the vaginal wall by microneedles.

The idea is to combine thermal stimulation using the Mofius 8V with the effects of medication, but the objectives vary depending on the medication used.

Delivers heat not only to the tip of the needle but also to the surrounding tissue

The RF function of the Mofius 8V does not heat only the tip of the needle locally.

Electric current also flows between the tip of the needle and the electrode plate, causing thermal energy to spread to the surrounding tissue.

It is believed that this thermal stimulation not only causes contraction of connective tissue but also promotes collagen remodeling during the repair process.

This is what we call “organizational remodeling.”

In other words, the Mofius 8V treatment doesn't just temporarily tighten the skin using heat; it also focuses on the process by which the tissue repairs itself.

However, the extent of remodeling varies from person to person.

What kind of results can I expect from the Mofius 8V?

Morpheus 8V is a treatment designed to improve the firmness and tightness of the vaginal walls.

These treatments are considered for conditions such as vaginal laxity and dryness, but the appropriate method varies depending on the cause of the symptoms.

Concerns about the intimate area are not uncommon

In a 2020 survey of 10,000 Japanese women aged 40 and older, 44.9% reported experiencing some type of symptom related to the vulva, vagina, or urination [1].

The survey found that, in addition to itching and odor in the intimate area, vaginal laxity and dryness were also present.

There are certainly many women who struggle with these concerns.

On the other hand, even when you’re worried about something, it takes courage to talk to someone about it, doesn’t it?

In a 2024 study of 1,000 Japanese women, 79.9 percent reported having experienced some type of symptom related to the vulva or vagina.

Of those, 77.5% had not consulted anyone, and only 10% had consulted a doctor [2].

The appropriate treatment for intimate area concerns varies depending on the cause.

In some cases, Mofius 8V may be an option, while in others, a different procedure or treatment may be necessary.

At Bianca Clinic, female doctors and female staff members provide consultations and treatments in the field of cosmetic gynecology.

It’s perfectly fine to bring up even things you might wonder, “Is it okay to ask about this?”

Since these are concerns that can be difficult to discuss with others, please don’t keep them to yourself—feel free to reach out to us.

Approaches to Vaginal Laxity and Postpartum Changes

Some women may feel that their vagina has become loose after giving birth, or may be concerned about “water leakage”—where warm water flows out of the vagina after taking a bath.

Mofius 8V aims to tighten the vaginal walls by applying thermal stimulation to the connective tissue, thereby promoting contraction and collagen remodeling.

However, vaginal laxity is also related to the function of the pelvic floor muscles and changes in the supporting tissues caused by childbirth.

Mofius 8V is not a treatment that directly strengthens the pelvic floor muscles.

We begin by determining whether changes in the vaginal wall are involved or whether we need to consider other factors, such as muscle issues.

Approaches to Vaginal Dryness and Menopausal Changes

Mofius 8V is designed to deliver RF thermal energy to the vaginal walls and promote collagen remodeling, thereby improving tissue firmness and overall condition.

This procedure is an option worth considering for those concerned about vaginal dryness or discomfort during intercourse.

Especially after menopause, the vaginal lining becomes thinner as female hormone levels decline, making it more prone to dryness and discomfort.

Mofius 8V works directly on the tissue of the vaginal wall to address these changes.

However, this treatment does not directly replenish moisture, nor does it regulate female hormones.

Depending on the cause of the symptoms and the condition of the mucous membranes, we may consider moisturizing treatments or medication.

Have the effects of Mofius 8V been reported in research studies?

In 2023, a clinical study of Mofius 8V involving 20 women with symptoms of GSM (genitourinary syndrome of menopause) and urinary incontinence was reported [3].

In this study, a single intravaginal treatment was administered, and changes were evaluated at 1, 3, and 6 months.

As a result, improvements were observed in the assessed indicators, such as the urinary incontinence questionnaire and vaginal health.

However, this was a small-scale study involving only 20 participants, and there was no comparison with people who did not receive the treatment.

Although improvements in symptoms have been reported, it is important to note that not everyone will experience the same results.

What are the pros and cons of the Mofius 8V?

The advantage of Mofius 8V is that it aims to tighten the vagina without requiring a large incision.

On the other hand, because the procedure involves the use of needles and heat, there is a risk of pain and swelling, and multiple sessions may be necessary.

Benefits | Aims to tighten the vagina without requiring a large incision

The advantage of the Mofius 8V is that it aims to tighten the vaginal walls without the need for excision or suturing.

Because it utilizes heat stimulation from fine needles and RF, it can target the vaginal wall tissue without requiring a large incision.

Although some women may be hesitant about surgery, this is one option to consider for those concerned about vaginal laxity or loss of firmness.

However, this does not produce the same results as surgery.

Disadvantages | There is a risk of pain and swelling, and multiple sessions may be required

Since the Mofius 8V uses needles and heat, you may experience some pain during the procedure.

At Bianca Clinic, we generally use lidocaine cream for topical anesthesia.

For patients who are anxious about pain, nitrous oxide anesthesia can be added upon request.

The recommended number of treatment sessions is about three, with sessions scheduled once every 3 to 6 weeks.

Typically, you should wait about 4 to 5 weeks; if the treatment was performed at a high energy level, you may need to wait about 5 to 6 weeks.

After the course ends, we will follow up with you in about one month to check on your progress.

After a Mofius 8V procedure, you may experience temporary pain, swelling, redness, minor bleeding, or changes in vaginal discharge.

In addition, you may experience pain in your lower abdomen that feels similar to menstrual cramps.

Even procedures that do not involve incisions are not without downtime or side effects.

Q. Does the Mofius 8V procedure hurt? Is anesthesia necessary?

A. Since the Mofius 8V inserts tiny needles into the vaginal wall, you may feel some pain.

At Bianca Clinic, we generally use lidocaine cream for topical anesthesia.

If you are particularly anxious, please consult with us about the option of using nitrous oxide anesthesia in combination with other methods.

Q. Can I receive the Mofius 8V treatment even while on my period?

A. We ask that you refrain from receiving treatments while you are menstruating.

Since this is a time when the vaginal mucosa tends to be more sensitive, please schedule your treatment to avoid your menstrual period.

If your appointment date is likely to coincide with your period, please contact the clinic in advance.

Q. Is the Mofius 8V effective against hot water leaks?

A. Even if you are concerned about fluid leakage, we may recommend the Mofius 8V depending on the condition of your vaginal walls.

However, vaginal fluid leakage can also be related to the shape of the vagina and the pelvic floor muscles. It is important to first identify the cause.

Q. Is it possible to experience vaginal discharge or bleeding after a Mofius 8V procedure?

A. Because the procedure involves needle stimulation, you may experience slight bleeding or brown-colored discharge for a short time.

However, if you experience heavy bleeding, severe pain, or vaginal discharge with an unusual odor, please do not assume this is a normal part of the process; contact the clinic instead.

Q. Can you perform the treatment even if I'm concerned about itching or odor in my intimate area?

A. If you experience itching or an odor, it is important to first identify the cause.

At Bianca Clinic, in addition to measuring the Vaginal Health Index—which assesses vaginal moisture and pH levels—we also offer testing for vaginal discharge and infections as needed.

Since the Mofius 8V treatment does not address infections or odors themselves, if inflammation or an infection is detected, treatment for those conditions will take priority.

Mofius 8V is a treatment that focuses on the tissue of the vaginal wall

Mofius 8V is a procedure that combines ultra-fine needles with RF thermal energy to target the connective tissue of the vaginal wall.

What I consider most important is not simply tightening the vagina, but understanding the cause of the changes my patients are experiencing.

Is it due to the firmness of the vaginal walls, the function of the pelvic floor muscles, or dryness caused by hormonal changes?

The appropriate method varies depending on the cause.

At BIANCA CLINIC in Tokyo, our female doctors and staff are here to listen carefully to your concerns regarding your intimate area.

It’s perfectly fine to reach out even if you’re wondering, “Is it okay to ask about something like this?” If you notice any changes that concern you, please feel free to contact us.
